All of my monarch butterflies are dying

Cecelia Morise

I have three milkweed plants in my side garden. I've had a few caterpillars not able to finish their chrysalises, they just sort of turn to goo? The rest of them have chrysalised successfully, but they're hatching wrong. They drop straight down to the ground and their wings are crumpled. This is happening with pretty much every butterfly - every day I go outside and there's a crumpled butterfly on the ground.

I have noticed that there are bites taken out of the milkweed leaves that are inconsistent with the way that the caterpillars eat them, but I haven't seen any pests by the plants aside from a few aphids.

What's happening to my butterflies and how do I fix it?

Thanks in advance :(
