How far off counter should pendant lights be placed?
Comments (7)I think the better question is how far from the floor. I have a pet peeve against pendant lights hung so low that you have to be sure to look between them if trying to have a conversation across a counter. And they should be high enough that a tall guest (such as 6'5") can easily see beneath them if standing near them. I have the same comment for range hood heights. My tall husband gets frustrated to duck to cook with some range hoods.Or, to bump his head if he forgets to avoid hitting it. lafdr...See MoreHow to space pendants over asymmetrical kitchen island?
Comments (16)you are going to have an 8' island. putting in tiny 6" mini pendants will look out of place. You will also need to lower them. countertop to the bottom of the lights really shouldn't be more than 25". (otherwise people sitting at the island will have the bulbs glaring in their eyes. mine are actually at 20") The ones you had over your previous peninsula are far too high (and too small) My island is 75". I have 6.5 pendants. If I put them in a line (they are in a triangle over the overhang because of the way the island/ceiling is built) they would be fine for the length. you have another 2' compared to mine. you could go a tad bit bigger or spread them out evenly. Don't worry about the sight lines. they aren't big enough to block anything!...See Moreadvice please skip or reposition pendants over island
Comments (10)Rod too long and too close together for my eye. Or maybe the pendants just aren't big enough. Big meaning, something with more height on the actual pendant, not the rod. The visual wants to go up, these pendants sort of pancake out. Lots of great stuff in the room, just gotta get these right. I know you have a picture from the dining area, so yes, if that is the line sight, I agree, use just recessed lights, forget the pendants completely. Hard to tell how far the chandelier is from the island so it may be getting way too complex with the pendants....See MoreHow far apart should I space pendant lights over Long Island?
Comments (14)What you should do is place the pendants absolutely centered on the island but place them 1/3 of the way in from the seating area. Then place a high hat directly above your sink for good task lighting. That's what I did and it works beautifully. Those sitting at the island get good lighting and you working at the sink get good lighting and no one will ever notice if it's slightly off because no one ever stands exactly dead center looking....See Morehoussaon
