I simply do not understand the paranoia about mail in voting. Other countries manage it without a problem. Is the US really so incapable of developing a robust and secure system to manage it?

More evidence of Trump's ignorance...

In yet another example of his belief that he is all powerful, Trump
decreed, “Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as
President, will not allow it to happen!”

The President, who has never read the U.S. Constitution and little to
no understanding of it, does not comprehend that he is using a private
platform operated by a private company, and the only “free speech”
guarantee is when the government “stifles” it.

Twitter can do what they want. And they have.

I have been voting by mail for at least 8 years. It is a safe way to vote. I usually drop off my envelope at the Supervisor of Elections office - it has become a tradition with us. I can also look up on the internet that my ballot was received.

All of Trump's blathering is BS. What he is doing is inoculating himself - if he loses the election he will have mail in voting to blame. Becoming a LOSER is anathema to him so he has to set up his future excuse for failure.

Most of the larger voter fraud cases have favored Republicans, and still only a drop in the ocean, impact-wise. The W. VA mail carrier was playing a joke, apparently, by changing 5 requests for Democratic primary ballots to requests for Republican ballots -- that could of changed results big-time, for sure...

Trump votes by mail.

He's just setting up his explanation for why lost. Why haven't his ratings gone up, with his masterful leadership during the pandemic?

Though, he is distracting the press from what his administration is working on.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Of course in the majority of voter fraud cases, look who's doing it...

“We want everyone to be tuned into the increased opportunities for
fraud," said Secretary of State Warner. "Voting absentee makes it easy
to vote, but increases opportunities for irregularities and fraud to
occur. If you see something, say something.”

As the task force investigated, they found five ballot requests that had been altered from "Democrat" to Republican."

The complaint against Cooper says he
changed an underline that several voters had placed under "Democrat" to a
circle around "Republican."

So these were just requests for a primary ballot. I assume once the democrats got the republican primary ballots they called the supervisor of elections to ask for an appropriate ballot, right? It looks more like mischief than fraud since no votes appear to have been involved.

I think it is dangerous when platform providers selectively police certain opinions while letting other controversial opinions go unchallenged.

Lots of people post garbage on Twitter, but you don't see the twits at Twitter fact-checking everyone who posts an outrageous opinion.

Twitter needs to determine what its mission really is and make it clear to the twitterverse which opinions it will police, and which opinions it will let slide even if those opinions are also based on some brand of fabulism.

Lionheart, I think it is important to put Twitter's action in context as it relates to their new policy meant to deter false and misleading information as it applies to elections. It was instituted as a result of Congress's backlash against social media for not doing more during 2016.

The tweet was in violation of their stated policy. They could have taken it down but they didn't. They simply provided a link to information that invalidates Trump's false assertions.

__________________________

"What is in violation of this policy?

We prohibit 3 categories of manipulative behavior and content under this policy:

Misleading information about how to participate
You can’t share false or misleading information about how to
participate in an election or other civic process. This includes but is
not limited to:

  • misleading information about procedures to participate in a
    civic process (for example, that you can vote by Tweet, text message,
    email, or phone call in jurisdictions where these are not a
    possibility);
  • misleading information about requirements for participation, including identification or citizenship requirements; and
  • misleading statements or information about the official, announced date or time of a civic process.

Suppression and intimidation

You can’t share false or misleading information intended to
intimidate or dissuade people from participating in an election or other
civic process. This includes but is not limited to:

  • misleading claims that polling places are closed, that polling
    has ended, or other misleading information relating to votes not being
    counted;
  • misleading claims about police or law enforcement
    activity related to voting in an election, polling places, or collecting
    census information;
  • misleading claims about long lines, equipment problems, or other disruptions at voting locations during election periods;
  • misleading claims about process procedures or techniques which could dissuade people from participating; and
  • threats regarding voting locations or other key places or events (note that our violent threats policy may also be relevant for threats not covered by this policy)."

SAN FRANCISCO (The Borowitz Report)—Servers belonging to the social-media platform Twitter burst into flames on Thursday, after the company attempted to fact-check all of Donald Trump’s tweets.

“We knew that fact-checking Trump’s tweets was going to put a strain on our system,” Jack Dorsey, the C.E.O. of Twitter, said. “We had no idea that it would result in columns of fire shooting forty feet into the air.”

Now it can be told.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has today hit out at Twitter owner Jack Dorsey following blowback from the White House on twitter’s plans to factcheck tweets. “Social media companies should not be acting as factcheckers and arbiters of the truth,” announced Zuckerberg this afternoon, “also by the way I like to spread peanut butter on the wall and lick it off while naked.”

The billionaire social media mogul, who spends his free time taking candy from children, instead suggested that social media companies should allow all speech on their platforms, and only intervene if there was a threat of imminent harm to someone’s life, like the woman he keeps chained in his basement.

“On the other hand, I just really like the taste of goat urine,” explained Zuckerberg thoughtfully, “can’t get enough.”

"The tweet was in violation of their stated policy. They could have taken it down but they didn't. They simply provided a link to information that invalidates Trump's false assertions."

It's an amazing coincidence that this policy is dated May 2020. It's almost like they made up a policy specifically to retaliate against certain speech that is generally made by certain people. It sure sounds like backdoor politicking on behalf of some people but not others.

As with statements on other topics, let the community respond and let the community butt heads over the topics. Obergruppenfuhrer Dorsey does not need to stack the deck and taint the conversation.

The mission statement given to investors is: "The mission we serve as Twitter, Inc. is to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly without barriers. Our business and revenue will always follow that mission in ways that improve – and do not detract from – a free and global conversation."

So much for "free and global conversation". There's no clause indicating that they will ditch free and global conversation the minute Herr Dorsey's delicate sensibilities are perturbed.
