Question re tub for awkward space for bathroom redo
Comments (8)Thanks for the info on the tub-- we remodeled master bath about 4-5 yrs ago in home we owned but rented to our son--we neeed to find a smaller tub for space that the acrylic soaker was in-- ordered it at Ferguson's and think it was AS--was a fiberglass tub--not my favorite but wasn't that expensive and fit the space... Maybe if my husband sees there are no nice small tubs he will agree to the shower upgrade We are familiar with aging in place stuff--house we bought in TX has roll in showers in both downstairs bathrooms and some other features... but thanks for the link This shows the entrance into part of bath with tub and shower the area just to left of pocket door is linen closet--then the small shower--the toilet is on that exterior wall-- I think there might be room to extend the side of the shower closest to toilet a foot or so which can make a difference in such small space...but it would make toilet sort of lopsided on the wall spacing......See MoreBathtub doors for small tub
Comments (5)olychick, that is a Kohler hydrorail with a Moen rainhead in brushed bronze. (The Kohler rainhead was hundreds more, so I got a Moen on closeout.) I love, love, love the whole setup. So functional, and designed by Kohler primarily as a retrofit to avoid changing out a wall valve, or a lot of drilling. In the end, we did update our valve, but wanted to keep our simple, clean tile because the bath was very modest inside. I hope to put another in our MBR refurb. i think we lost our OP!...See MoreBackyard Ideas/Improvements
Comments (5)I’m not a huge fan of hot tubs - had one, didn‘t use it much & takes up too much space & too much work to maintain so I’ll leave that to others for comment. But, how about extending lower patio out quite a way to provide sun seating at ground level? And maybe create an interesting shape with it - round, not square. I’d also think about terracing the slope to create a seating wall, plantings to create softness, texture, privacy, interest etc etc & to not have to mow that sloped strip of lawn. I’m one who loves garden scapes so I’d be creating a planting bed along the fence on left side of pics too. Create some privacy and interesting views for that side of yard.Lawns need too much water, a valuable resource so my goal would be to reduce lawn, add combos of evergreens & perenniels for your area to create a lush, welcoming yard that you want to spend time in. If you have a dog that matches the size of that dog door in lower patio, do leave run & play space for it too!...See MoreRheem Marathon or AO Smith "Light Service Commercial" Electric WH?
Comments (15)Florida with a basement? On the ocean? That sounds unusual. Note that a heat pump hot water heater will dehumidify and cool the space it is in. You may not want the cooling but will appreciate the dehumidification. In florida, a garage is a really good place. But inside the envelope - but maybe not the basement - is even better. I too had the same concern about reliability and it is why I have a resistance tank on a rental property on the coast built in 2010. Remember, the hybrids have resistance built in so will continue to work as a dumb unit if the compressor fails. The early units (when I researched in 2010) were using poor quality compressors - from my understanding - window unit compressors. The new ones are reportedly (and to my experience) much better. I too have an efficient household and we were in a study - I think our true usage was 30% of DOE numbers so you should probably discount the savings by 50% as a starting point. The other issue is that DOE numbers aren't for FL specifically (warm ground water) and probably don't account for efficient DW and Washers. And, of course, it isn't all about the benjamins....See MoreTrish Walter
