I second the suggestion for the waterhog mats. I'll post where we purchase them if I can find the link - you can get custom sizes, colors, styles, etc. LL BEAN sells them too but they are very pricey IMO. We use them around our dogs water bowls too since they are sloppy drinkers. In addition to our entry way, we also use them in the back of our SUV's in the cargo area since we travel with our Boxers. Keeps the truck nice and clean and absorbs liquids. After my dog had surgery he peed in the truck on the drive home from the vets office (post-anesthesia, if I remember correctly) and I was thankful for that waterhog mat. Not a drop of urine on my upholstery; the waterhog captured all of it, and it was easy enough to clean -- I sprayed it down with a hose and some cleaning solution, left it out to dry and no residual smell whatsoever. They're awesome mats.

marshaoak - The protective film around the glossy cabinets should not have left any adhesive gunk behind, it defeats the purpose. Who is the manufacturer of these cabs? I'd contact them, give them an earful and ask what type of adhesive remover would be safe to remove the mess. Better yet, have them ship a bottle to you. For free. modellie - the sideboard is... well... it's actually... one and a half Godmorgon bathroom vanities (a discontinued version). Please don't laugh :-) I found them for a steal in the As Is, still in their boxes. We love that it's all drawers, so practical. Yes, you got it, the narrow open shelf holds placemats and trays. One of the drawers hides our plugged-in toaster. The bread gets toasted right in the open drawer. A square tray underneath the toaster catches any stray crumbs. Works beautifully. And of course we have half a vanity left (one complete drawer and 2 finished sides) which we will soon install as our vanity in the powder room we're currently working on. So rare for things to work out like that. funky - you're too kind. Yeah, even after all those years we've been living in this house, I still find myself gazing out the windows when I'm supposed to be doing things. It's really hard not to, with so many (almost) floor to ceiling windows and glass sliding doors.

Um. Nooo. White doesn't contrast white. Different whites don't contrast each other well either. "black white and brown are really all the same" help me out here?! lol let's say if I wanted contrast I wouldn't pair a brown sweater with slightly different brown trousers, because firstly they wouldn't contrast, and secondly, they wouldn't match either. They'd probably look like you meant to match and missed the mark. I hear you want change, but I think you're best of with what looks good, even if it happens to be same thing you had.
