Bonded leather durability on sofa ??!
Comments (27)Bonded leather is rubbish. we purchased abonded leather sof suite from furniture Bazarr and after a year it began to peel and crack so we had a vinyl repair man repair the worst areas and decided to move our seating to the front lounge leaving the bonded leather suite having very little use however it deteriorated to a point where it was not of acceptable appearance due to cracking and peeling. Furniture Bazaar was not interested in any refund and stuck to the one year guarantee policy ignoring the Australian consumer laws that overide any retailers warranty. We now have fair trading involved and I thik we will win our claim as we are well protected under Australian consumer laws. As an interest the Australian ACCC took fantastic furniture to task involving bonded leather (amongst other retailers) and they were not only fined for misleading advertising but court ordered to not use the word leather unleess the product is real leather they also determined that the bonded leather was in facf only 10% leather. The fine under consumer law for false or misleading statements to gain a sale is 1.1 million dollars for a company and over $200000 for an individual. It is not in a retailers interest to deny a genuine claim as a complaint to ACCC could result in great expense to the retailer if ACCC proceeds with an action...See MoreWhat do I need to budget for a good leather sofa?
Comments (27)Just saw your California comment. I can't get Smith here either. The Omnia leather I have been looking at is based in California. They are US made and 100% leather. The ones we've been looking at are all very cofortable and I especially like that the cushions (seat and back) can have the inserts replaced. Even those pillowy arms that are the first thing to go flat (though I still prefer a true arm for myself). Surely you can find a dealer out there. They have a couple of online retailers I'v found -- if nothing else, you can compare pricing (leather furniture expo and leather showroom, which is the online part of texas leather interiors). We had two cats when we got out current leather sectional and they were with us another 10 years. I have exactly one small scratch on the end where back claws tried to did in as one was being chased. It could be coveed up with shoe polish but because of the location, I tried it once and never worried about it again. Don't be tempted to use a marker -- someone did that on a spot on a reclinging sofa we saw at a clearance center -- the ink soaked right in, bled and made it larger, dark and awful. We've had the sectional now for nearly 13 years and 2 boys and their friends and family grew up during those years as well as aquired two 50-60 lb dogs who have lived on that sectional with us. It's still functional, but one seat is showing wear and the arms have lost some oomph in the padding. And it was a Lane -- which people now say is junk. Maybe not the same reputation 13 years ago -- I don't know. The leather should hold up well -- if the frame is solid, you should be good for a long time....See MoreLeather couch for durability
Comments (14)Macy's carries several Italsofa models(cheaper line of Natuzzi). While it's not as great as Natuzzi itself (which I also have-these are 17 years old:) but they need to be reupholstered, to tell you the truth. I'm just not so willing to do that at the moment), we have our pieces purchased there for seven years already, and they hold pretty well. Some slight sagging on the sectional(most heavily used). We bought them on a big sale, so it was comparatively a great deal My sectional looks like Milano they carry now..I'm not sure whether it's Milano or not, but there is visual similarity. Mine is brick red. I don't like bulky styles so was looking for something that can work in any setting, more or less..something not too heavy visually, yet comfortable and durable. And I liked the colors they had then. So I have red sectional in the library, aubergine sofa in the living, and sunflower-yellow armchair..(which now lives in a master bedroom and looks totally different-I covered it in this huge cozy throw, sort of oatmeal color..it was too bright and thus diverted attention from a new pendant..)) (now of course I dislike knowing I bought them kinda together, (even though they were of different colors intended for different spaces) because I prefer eclectic mix of furnishings. (And a bit tired of leather.. but yes, of course, life is much easier that way). and I never repeated the same mistake again.. then we moved, new space, new arrangement, and it partially took care of the problem..love it more now) Now, I realize I gave you a lot of totally not-needed info..:)in short, second looking into suggestion of Macy's. Probably not a bad combo of price vs quality....See Morehow durable is 100% polyester velvet ? Thinking of buying a sofa
Comments (3)Ask your sales associate what the rub count is of the fabric you're considering. Generally, 15,000 -25,000 is a good number for everyday residential use. The higher the rub count the more durable it will be. Lower than 15,000, is best for lightly used pieces. While you're at it, you may want to ask about the sofa's construction. They should be able to tell you if it's a kiln dried hardwood frame and what the seat deck system is - as well as the cushion content. They should also be able to tell you where it was made. RH doesn't have a great reputation for quality furniture, although you wouldn't know it by their prices. Since you're still looking, take a look at some other manufacturers with great reputations for quality. Taylor King, Wesley Hall and Hickory Chair are a few that come to mind....See MoreLinda Y
