I reached a decision and have a couple more things on order now. I received the mission-style lamp and absolutely love it. The base is less coppery looking than in the photo - more dark antiqued bronze. Love it, love it. So here's the lineup for my new space, and I think it'll all be very pretty, somewhat understated (for me, anyway), and in keeping with the surrounding decor. -Sorry the photos are not to scale. It's not a huge clock, only 12" x 12", and it will hang over my computer. I ended up choosing this particular tapestry because after spending time in the new space (I'm currently back and forth between offices until next week), it is perfect with the flooring, the lamp, and the guest chairs opposite my desk (they are mahogany stained with deep navy upholstery). I have brought in a little art pottery piece in muted blues that I got at Stonehenge and will also bring in one more artisan-crafted bowl from home (in shades of green and copper). I'm very pleased with how this is all coming together, and thank those of you who gave me input and encouragement very much!

That space is too tight and extremely confining with the floor to ceiling bookcases on each end. What I would suggest is you remove the bookcase on the right side of the desk, take it out of the room entirely and if need be, put it in storage. Not that difficult to take out. That will free up at least 10 to 12" in depth and also make the space more friendly and not as closed in. Then you have room for two chairs, one in each corner. Also remove that drapery, its too much for the room. If need be install some inexpensive blinds that don't project into the room. The plastic desk chair floor pad is doing you no favors, looks terrible in there. Either go bare on the floor with wood-friendly rollers OR use a decorative rug in the space. If the bookcases have to stay, then get the chairs as small as you can. I'd use Hancock and Moore # 1801 Captain's chairs which are very compact (24" deep) and open-looking so as not to crowd the space, and pretty comfortable . Less is more when working spaces such as that.

I would probably do something similar to how they have it set up with desk on one of the walls parallel to the windows and then on the window wall some narrow cabinets. I have the Havsta ones from Ikea which are pretty plain but could be painted or jazzed up. I have the taller narrower ones behind the desk and the shorter a bit deeper ones on the side. Something like this might work on the wall under the windows. Then a nice reading chair and floor light in the corner.
