Artwork for Diningroom
Comments (22)Thank you all for your feedback. The comments helped to give me confidence to go with my gut of what I really love instead of just another beautiful painting. I agree with the comments about classic British colonial. I'm doing only a loose interpretation. For example, my familyroom furniture is Queen Anne style in walnut woods so certainly not the darker woods and heavier design of Br.Colonial. Mtnrdredux, I love the tortoise shell mirror you showed but already have a mirrored hutch in the DR. But you've given me the idea to look for other tortoise shell accessories, so thanks for the help. Anele, I don't know yet if the artist will repaint his work. He had offered to do so in the past but do not know if he is still willing to do that. I did receive an email from Carleton yesterday. He will email photos of new paintings now available which should be interesting. If I see something I really like, I'll let you gals know what I finally select. Hope I can talk the artist into doing a repaint if LD is still tops on my list. Sable, thanks for the tip. I did enjoy looking at "The Old Man and the New Trees". Like LD, it draws the viewer into the painting and makes me want to chat with the people as anele was commenting on the piece I like. Outsideplaying, after looking at Hoyle's work I have to say that it is just not my style. However, I may love it if seen in person. He's certainly a top quality artist....See MoreWhat would you do to this diningroom?
Comments (20)This is what you see when you enter our home. The dining room is to the right. (Sorry for the sideways picture but tinypic keeps flipping them and I cannot figure out how to change them back). (Ignore the "N" on the buffet-it was stuck there until I put it away) This is the view from the family room back toward the dining room and foyer, And this is the "sofa wall" in the family room. (Excuse the mess, please. Long weekend with company.) Looking at these, it looks like I have a sort of "vanilla" home, but there is color, just in other rooms!...See MorePlease help with light fixture for my diningroom!!!!!!
Comments (4)The ceiling fixture is in the center of the room? Leave it. Purchase a chandelier for the entire room. Add length and width of the entire space and that number is the perfect size for a ceiling light. Because it is in the middle of the room, allow 7’/7.5 feet off the floor for the bottom of the fixture. Recommending a fixture which illuminates up and down, the entire room will have a beautiful glow. Install a dimmer. It will set a mood. When dining, use candles on the table....See MoreDiningroom front and center when walking into a new home?
Comments (23)Thanks so much for all of the super constructive and smart feedback. The floorplan is already set in stone (house is 80% complete) but it hadn't occurred to me (dug) just to stop thinking of it as a dining room. haha. The two options I see with the most promise are: - As a study/office. I work from home and was planning to use one of the upstairs bedrooms but this could be a really nice alternative. Wall it off, add some glass doors maybe. Built-ins, warm it up with some texture... - As that welcoming foyer. Maybe add a little half-wall transition / break on either side to seperate the space. Imaging built-ins, a low round wooden table, cosy velvet chairs, pendant lighting. Would be less used perhaps but a really cosy place to read, have a glass of wine away from the TV in the living room - would give it a hotel vibe on entry. Still not sure it's the house for us but thinking about it this way really gives me a different set of ideas altogether....See Morejohnny aa
