Counter stool dilemma - update
Comments (7)Thank you everyone for your sweet comments : ) jbrig - they are very comfortable! When DH and I first discussed purchasing counter stools these immediately caught my eye. We were concerned, however, about buying something without sitting on it first, so we decided to go look for stools in furniture stores. After trying MANY different stools, DH concluded that rush seats were the most comfortable after all (he has a sensitive rear end : ) ) With 5 kids, this meant I would have to spend a lot of money on custom seat cushions to protect the stools from crumbs, spills...etc. . Since Ballard carried seat cushions with removable and washable covers - at a reasonable price - I finally decided it was worth a try to order the Avignon stools. We are VERY pleased with our purchase. The stools' seats and backs are very comfortable. Also, my husband was impressed with the stools' construction - they are as well or better made than many of the stools we looked at. The seat cushions are very nice, and the fabric used for the cover seems quite sturdy. I should mention that DH doesn't really like the location of the foot rests, but he is 6'1". I am 5'4" and the foot rest is at a perfect height for me. I should mention that the quality of the rush seats is fine - definitely not the highest end. I will probably always have cushions on them. Lastly, we tried many ladder back stools with taller backs - these seemed to make us slouch forward. The low backs on the Ballard stools are much more comfortable... If you go for these I think you'll be pleased....See MoreDesign dilemma - deck design pattern
Comments (9)Prefer either the gray or the color left of the gray for decking. If at all possible, keep the deck one level. Decide on your deck color before deciding on any color for the art frames. Is a rectangle the only option for shape? Could you wrap your deck around a corner so you have sun/shade option?...See Moreplease help me with this design’s dilemma
Comments (10)It seems placement could work centered or offset, but without the sconces only. According to your sketch, the sconce is too close to the hall. If the artwork is offset from the table, you have the balance and massing from the sideboard, so picture yourself sitting in the family room. First, you probably won't view the art perfectly associated to the center of the table. Then, if you see the artwork not centered on table/chandelier, that may be ok because the visual breakup with the sideboard may balance the entire view. And you've drawn like a long 6'+ piece, so it may conflict with that 4-gang switch box there anyway. But, I would probably just eliminate the sconces as IMO it detracts from the art anyway, and limits you in flexiblity for a different sized piece in the future. Then you can play with a centered or offset location upon hanging. I think either could work. Same logic I would apply to the sideboard, whether it can be centered or offset from the table....See MoreFireplace design - Cottage addition design dilemma :)
Comments (8)Please ignore the 'pro' debby downer, who can't seem to say anything positive about anything. IMO! Will the paneling be vertical or horizontal? I really like the stone to the ceiling in your rendering. If you imagine what will go above the mantel (no tv but likely you will need large artwork because of the scale), if you stop the stone and do paneling above the mantel, then add art on that, you'll get a bit of a chopped up look - 3 materials (stone, wood, art) instead of just 2 (stone, art). I also think it will look nice from the upper floor to have the stone all the way up. If you hang art above the mantel, I don't think the tall stone look as imposing; above the painting will not be dominating, as your eyes will focus on the art and the fire. I've been looking for inspiration pics with cedar paneling and stone fireplaces on a vaulted wall, but they are hard to find....See MoreRelated Professionals
