Comments (57)Hello Mr. HVAC (a name that sounds like the Grand Puba of HVAC) I am sure I have more stupid stories than you could imagine also; Just not me. If I need to put equipment on a roof, I hire a crane. Done it, been there. I have to admit, I have the training to be a rocket scientist, I lived in Houston for many years, where rocket scientists exist in great quantities, but I work on practical equipment. I attended the same engineering college that produces many scientific workers at NASA. I have performed muck level jobs, I love the smell of oil and grease. I also design and build devices. I know how to read technical data; which seems to be a problem with many HVAC workers in Texas. I tried to discuss technical aspects with this forum multiple times, but you werent interested. I was willing to try. The best you could offer was comments on my alleged drug usage. Kinda lame in my opinion. I guess you fall into the reading challenged category. You have been working like a pack mule longer than I have worked with HVAC, from your admissions. I wouldn't want to brag. When I need manual labor, I hire workers ALWAYS. If I need to do a labor intensive job in an emergency, I still hire workers. I have hired temp workers walking by a job at midnight and put them to work immediately. I think like a boss, not a worker in that aspect. I guess that comes from many years of operating my own business. Think smart, try to never repeat mistakes, and NEVER lie to the customer. I still think that if I can teach you, I can teach anyone. You are an opinionated hard case that is living in your dreams. I hope you are happy; I have dropped to your level with this post. As to advising on issues, if I do not have direct experience; I don't advise. It must be mind boggling to you, to imagine my qualified experience level in so many areas. As a service provider/ owner, I did a lot of varied work. Just because you donÂt agree with me does not immediately make me wrong. It does show poor judgment on your part, to claim I am wrong. For the people that write me, or are considering writing me; I am always willing to help, but I do not feel it is appropriate to troll this site for work. If I give referrals to anything, I do not profit from the referral. IMO, this is bad business. Others can do as they wish. When I started posting on this site, it was not for any ego gratification. It was to show potential employers my troubleshooting skills and general knowledge. I found that I like helping people in need. I mention this site (Garden Web) to all that can benefit. I do not post very much on the other site, that has a lot of commercial and large equipment workers. I do post where appropriate. Funny I donÂt get negative comments on that site. Only pros are allowed. I would probably stop posting entirely on that site if some of the guys were like this site. I have asked the same questions, and of skill level there also....See MoreAdvice needed on new hvac system in NC
Comments (21)We are in the process of replacing a 1 year old...Yes,1 year old 4 ton ($12,400put in Aug.20,2011) air conditioner:TraneXL16i seer:16.5 furnace:TraneXV95 load calculation was done by 5 out of the 6 companies stating we needed a 4 ton unit. We just had a company come out and they said we are oversized by 1 ton and that was the reason for our whole problem?? We have what they call 'dirty sock' syndrome which started 2 weeks after it was installed!! 4 coil changes later still an issue. When we ran it in emergency heat over the winter, without a coil,no smell!!! With Tranes non responsiveness to all I would never get a Trane again!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I've read about all the problems with all units and am more confused then ever, but I do know that I will not get a heatpump again!!! Our original Lennox furnace(19yrsold)began getting stuck/freezing(not turning on) no smell issues whatsoever. Since we had just finished with our D.I.Y renovation of our home we decided to get a new unit, more energy efficient since it was the last thing that was needed to complete our home! I cannot believe how each and every contractor differs on their load calcs...you would think there would be some sort of protocol/procedure to do this accurately and come up with the same numbers?? More confused then ever~smile~Afraid to get that horrendous smell back in my house with another 'coil'...and Yes, we had one dipped and the procedure was done incorrectly , even the contractor said the chemical smell was making him ill...it was in the house for 1 hour and he had to take it out immediately after closing up the unit(took him an hour to install it). We had to air out the house mid winter and sit outside...stress to say the least....Any comments advice would be appreciated~smile~ I too live in W.N.C....See MoreNeed expert guidance for a new HVAC system
Comments (34)Guys, I have gotten stuck in between two systems for my final decision. Please help me out to pick the right one. I am trying to decide in between these two ; #1 - Bryant 6129135 Active Systems BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS PERFORMANCE 13 PURON HP BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS 286BNA048****B CNPV*4821AL*+UI 1300 1040 315(A,J)AV048090 45500 11.50 15.50 46000 8.20 29600 1 HRCU-A-CB 355 1140 also includes - Evolution touchscreen thermostat and comes with free Bryant Air purifier - one year test drive - I don't know how it works but they say they will provide 100% refund if I am not satisfied with the system within a year from the installation date #2 - Trane 5768796 Active Systems XR17 TRANE 4TWR7048A1 4TXCD063BC3 1370 1090 *UD2C080B9V4 48000 12.50 17.00 45500 9.00 30400 1 HRCU-A-CB 342 1077 Yes Not include thermostat. will use exiting HW VP IAQ includes GPS-2400 plasma air cleaner price wise the Trane is roughly $200 more expensive than the Bryant after the tax credit is deducted Both contractor will add two returns and one supply and will fix the distribution issues in my current duct work. Based on the notion I got; both contractors are very capable and have very good reputation I am more inclined to Bryant due to evolution controls. I do know Trane is very reliable and efficiency wise it is a little more efficient compared to the Bryant system. to me $200 difference in price is very negligible. I just want to make right decision. I got stuck! PLEASE HELP......See MoreHVAC quotes: Need help deciding between options
Comments (49)Mike, yes. They have to give me the wired ODT sensor so I can lock out the heat pump. This was discussed between them and I several times before I signed on the dotted line and they had assured me this was possible. So as far as I am concerned they have to deliver on it even if it required ODT sensor. I just found another issue as I dig into this mess. I was trying to understand the fan behavior. In particular, from the sound it seemed the fan always ran at one speed. I was puzzled and digging into the thermostat menus, I confirmed this. The fan was either 100% or 0% speed. And it runs for additional 1 minute or so after the compressor shuts off (cooling fan delay). I found this odd - why did I buy a variable speed blower and why was I sold one. I mentioned this to the dealer and could get a satisfactory explanation. And then I checked the install guide - and it was there (see attached, in particular the graph and the table). There are four settings one can choose from. To really benefit from the variable speed the jumpers on the inside unit need to be configured in so called enhanced mode (option 4 in the table) where the fan starts at 50% speed and then to 80% for about 1 minute (fast cooling); the fan then stays on at 80% for 7.5 minutes (dehumidification); if necessary, ramps to 100% to get to the set point temperature and stays there as long as required, and ; ramps down to 50% and then 0% over three minutes to extract extra cooling efficiency. Well, this is not how my system has been configured. Mine is configured as option 2 in the table - 100% fan speed, followed by 1.5 minute delay - there is no variability of fan speed that can kick in. I have call in to my dealer......See MoreHU-109265008
