Finding reference for 1930 Spanish Revival Bungalo in No. Cal
Comments (10)Let me start by saying all I got for Christmas last year was books. And that's all I wanted for Christmas. See, we just got a 1925 Mission Revival home last year and I am obsessed. I agree with the above suggestions, particularly Bungalow Kitchens by Jane Powell. Here are the other books I have and their strong points. Red Tile Style (Arrol Gellner/Douglas Keister) - This one has a total of maybe ten kitchen photos. Mostly exterior shots and some of details like lighting and tile. Very accessible. George Washington Smith (Patricia Gebhard) - this focuses on particular (grand) homes by Smith and has a few kitchen photos. Lots of exteriors and courtyard/patio shots, with floor plans. Santa Barbara Style (Kathryn Mason/James Chen) Grand vintage homes and a few newer examples. Not many kitchen shots, but lots of exteriors and some gardens, formal rooms, courtyards. Casa California (Elizabeth McMillan/MelbaLevick) -Not much in the way of kitchens.,but lots of architectural detail shots. A few of the homes are of recent vintage, but most are '20s. Mediterranean Domestic Architecture in the United States (Marc Appleton) - this is a reprint of vintage photos of grander homes. I don't see any kitchens, but it is interesting to see the period decoration and the floor plans. Black and White. California Colonial (Elizabeth McMillan) - focuses mostly on architectural details, specifically tilework, entries, wrought-iron, fenestration. There are also good examples of doors, light fixtures, interior goodies like niches and fireplaces. There is even some info on furnishings,....See MoreRE: Spanish Revival/Mexican/Mediterranean Style - Part IX
Comments (150)BinsB How GREAT! I'd guess by now the 'kids' are knocking from the outside - yes? Paleese post a pic if you can. We'd all (I'm sure) love to see your accomplishments :-))) after waiting soooo long. Love the orange colors of the nursery but mmm - are they really going to sleep in one crib? :-)) Just kidding. When you have time, which likely won't be for awhile I'm sure, would love to see the nursery with the paper flowers, et al. Not to worry about the non-span house of present. It's the spirit inside that can carry it thru. Imagine what a tough time I have in my location. LOL!! You'll have lotsa fun (when/if you can find the time) doing some special stuff in your new abode. Trop - hmmm pictures this year? LOL! That will be fun to see. I'll look forward (but won't hold my breath too awfully long). :-))) I'm thinking maybe you just eliminated the kitchen altogether and are doing take out now? Houseful it's great to have you posting again. Perhaps you can help us breathe some life back into this thread as I know Bins is going to be rather busy over the next while. :-)) If it weren't for her dedication, I'm sure this thread would no longer exist. I have a few things on my plate but hopefully they will be resolved shortly and I can return to my decorating love. And speaking of thread(s), I didn't check but I'm thinking we must be getting close to limit - yes? Should we be starting a new thread? Waddya all think? Take care all, Holly...See MoreWhat to do with front porch of Spanish Colonial Revival bungalow?
Comments (10)Its a good idea getting rid of the two beams. Let me show you where our front door is as I can tell its hard to see from the photos! My original vision was something like this below but the contractor didnt really listen to our ideas he just replaced everything (termites/dryrot) and kept it the way it was (a whole other story) assuming thats what we wanted, so I'm not really liking it since a different vision was the whole reason we had it torn down. We did remove the step in front of the door and brought the whole porch up with more cement, then made it that much taller on the roof side to compensate....See MorePaint choices help! Comments (1)Love your tile. I'd use the light neutral background color of the tile for the walls. How about the green for the mantle?...See Moreptreckel
