I'd probably get it from Heirloom roses. It will start smaller but theirs should be virus free which is important in these older roses. Palatine's version will be a lot bigger at the start though and will likely grow faster. As for grafted vs own root - I haven't found it to matter much in my garden. It's more that Palatine's roses start out so much bigger that makes a difference, so if a rose is iffy here then I'll get it from Palatine so it has the best chance at getting established and getting through the winter. But the advantage in buying from Heirloom is that they try to make sure their roses are virus free. So if you're buying a rose that has a very high chance of being virused it can be worth it to get a clean version that will start out healthier. My Double Delight is own root, from either Roses Unlimited or Heirloom (I don't remember which) and it has been a very good plant; a bit slow the first year but very nice the second year.

Does it really look orange/yellow? I've never seen that before. do you think it either got way too hot or too cold in shipping? I had a nepenthes alata that my husband left outside and the frost got it. It died, but I was able to cut it back to nothing and it is showing new sprouts now. It took a very very long time for that to happen, I just stuck with it and kept watering it even though I was sure it was completely dead. It took a couple of months. It will compltely dry up brown and shriveled if it is dead. Just treat it right and hope for the best! defintely contact the company though, maybe they can be persuaded to send a healthier plant.

This appears to be an environment in which the sheet metal structure needs to be made of stainless steel, although in some cases aluminum may work. If the motor itself is seriously corroded, then the entire unit will need replacement, although from the photo it appears that the worst corrosion is outside. A sheet metal shop should be able to duplicate the external parts in stainless. The round dome, however, may need to be revised into a cylinder for ease in fabrication. I would either find a salt resistant commercial small upblast model to replace it, or get a new unit (or just a replacement shell) from Independent and hand it over to a sheet metal shop to duplicate it in stainless. Given the inconvenience of getting to it, a longer term solution should be the goal. kas
