Comments (5)I suggest that you take a look at this ideabook: ideas for kids' shared bedrooms. There are some great photos at this one. You can also browse at the kids section of that website and find other spaces that you like. Good luck (and don't forget to post the photos of your project:-)) Here is a link that might be useful: [Kids' shared bedrooms[(https://www.houzz.com/magazine/ideas-for-kids-shared-bedrooms-stsetivw-vs~2736)...See MoreFinally, my Master Bedroom UPDATE !!!
Comments (38)Exactly, although I really appreciate your critique of my bedroom space. DH would not allow me to switch chest of drawers. That's his "side" of the room, bed, bench, lol. Y'all don't know what it took to talk him into curtains! Although, he has been pretty good throughout this decorating process. I did previously try to put the basket under the side table, but it is too tall with the pillows and would be a pain to get under to retrieve them. As for the air return, I cannot block it with anything that large and solid. You should have seen the dust on the solid painted screen. The heating and air guys were not thrilled with that, either. One of these days, I'll see the perfect console table to put there, but in the meantime, that's what I feel comfortable with and it's staying. I can't believe y'all have not seen these decorative screens as just that...decorative! Must be a southern thing. Anyhow, all I wanted to do is show you my newly revamped space because it is such a big improvement over what it was. Thank you for the kind words, tryingtodecorate. The color is Decatur Buff in the bedroom, and my fireplace wall is as well. I have considered painting that entire wall like the trim color, a paneled look like my previous home (seen below) and may do so when we replace the fireplace box (another story.) yayagal - We may sell, so come on!...See MoreBedroom Mini Make-over Complete (pics)
Comments (30)I think the addition of the stripe might not be approved by DS. I think it might take it that one step beyond looking pulled together and looking "decorated". But I will let him choose when he returns next week. He hasn't seen the room finished. Even though he chose the individual elements and has seen the room painted, he hasn't seen everything in the room. I offered photos but he wants to be surprised. That's why I haven't ironed the duvet yet, just in case he hates it in person. I went to the fabric store today to pick up some options. I found a gray linen that is very close to the background color of the drapes and would work the best if I added stripes. I also picked up a heavy matelasse type of fabric per a couple suggestions above. This one is the wall color and has a little circle theme. Yeah I know....i'm supposed to be moving away from that but I think it could be a contender as it's rather subtle. I picked up one other that I'm not sure how to explain but I don't really like. I also purchased a 1/2 yard of charcoal silk to use to make cording for the pillows and decided to see how that would work so I'm attaching photos for your thoughts. charcoal silk...I like the contrast with everything else and since I am using it to edge the throw pillows made out of the circle fabric, it would tie in. Unfortunately, they are rather stingy with their samples and have a minimum 1/2 yard purchase requirement... I couldn't find anything heavy except the circle fabric. The linen is rather "stiff" though and would hold a box pleat really well....See MoreBM bright greens for tween daughter's bedroom?
Comments (15)My experience with helping my two DD's redecorate their rooms, is that often times they lack an understanding of the big picture and just focus on the paint, not thinking of how this ties in with their bedding, WTs, and other stuff. I am somewhat in between the two camps: it's her room, let her pick and choose something that is aesthetically appealing. My 16-year-old DD craves color and always has. I now see this is not a fad, but her personality. I've read some other posts on the recent neutrals thread about adults who crave color and others who like the visual calm of a neutral palate. It's a personal choice, neither is wrong. It took me several attempts and compromises to finally accept her desire for color and this is what we finally came up with. I helped her to develop a vision for her room and showed her how we could balance out the saturated turquoise walls with B&W accessories and with a touch of lime. Use this as an opportunity to bond with your DD over her mini-room makeover and make it into a room she will feel good about and proud to have her friends over. As part of this, also consider the other furnishings in the room. Will she be getting new bedding, WTs and other accessories as well? If so, start with that. Then based on that, pick 3-5 colors that you think are good candidates based on what you think would compliment her decor and what you know about her desire for color, get sample pots and paint on the wall and let her choose from those. It helps a lot if you can find an inspriation photo and work from that. Perhaps something like this? I find Pottery Barn teen and even JC Penney's to have good pictures of rooms....See Morenjmomma
