What are my options for Black / Dark Frame Replacement Windows?
Comments (14)We installed Milgard dark bronze aluminum in our modernist house a couple of years ago. They really do look black. We like the look, and they work well. As others have said, aluminum frames are not as energy efficient as other choices, but some vendors do have thermally broken frames to help. Ours do not have thermally broken frames. (For some unknown reason, Milgard did not offer them in California at the time.) You can put your finger on the frame and glass on a hot/cold day and certainly tell the difference in temperature. It is important to note that since aluminum is stronger than other choices, the frames are correspondingly thinner. So this mitigates some of the thermal concerns since there is less frame area and more glass area....See MoreWhen do bronze window frames work well in the interior of a home?
Comments (13)I'm keeping the drywall return. Adding inside molding is an option if I feel the frames look too wide for my taste on the interior. The window company I'm using that is within my price range only offers one color for both inside and outside. Justterrilynn, thank you for the photos. Your home and landscaping are really lovely. The roof looks dark so the bronze window frames complement it nicely. Those frames look fairly thin. Are they the aluminum with a thermal break? Who is the manufacturer? My plans are to go with fixed picture widows with no grids in the family room. This reduces the width of the frame, and I don't particularly care to look through grids from the interior to exterior. However, yours do look very nice, architecturally. As an aside, I wish our area required lamp posts. That's a great touch. Ak, thanks for another bronze vote. I hadn't thought of versatility but that's an important point. Almost all of my neighbors seem to be going with the white inside and out. These comments are really giving me the courage to move forward. I'm also trying to get myself psyched up for the dark green window glass that code requires here in Houston. The Low e3 366 lets in 60% visible light compared with my clear single pane glass. I'm also wondering how I will adjust to that....See MorePella Proline Black Exterior Window/ White Interior Window - Help!!!
Comments (34)do you have window coverings? And do you love them? What brand did you go with? House looks great. I read the link someone posted and brought up the black interior and decorating. I was thinking of just doing all black in the living areas and black out with white inside in the sleeping areas. Thanks for the quick response! :) Would love to see more pics of your house. Any idea what your exterior brand and color are?...See MoreWhite or black solar shades for condo with black window frames
Comments (11)I have both 1% and 5% white solar shades in my house. 1% in bedrooms for privacy and light control. 5% in living room to preserve some of the view and to reduce heat gain. It's a neat concept to be able to see the view through the 5% shade, but as soon as the sun is no longer an issue, which is much of the time (overcast days, trees leafed out and anytime after mid-day), I roll the shades up, because that's the view I really want to see. The sun shines through the 5% shade so much so that it hurts my eyes, so I have to position myself somewhere in the room where it is not an issue. I'm not sure how different black would be, but I've noticed that a lot of restaurants have black. I considered black, but I sort of prefer light and bright. I'm not sorry I ordered white, the view may be blurry, but the mind fills in the blanks, if that makes sense. I ordered mine from blind.com....See MoreKilbourn
