Should I add a foyer light?

Hi, I am considering installing this light fixture in my “foyer.” I put that in quotes since our entry opens into our formal living room so it isn’t a true foyer. We typically enter through the garage so this entry isn’t used that often. To help define the space better I am considering installing the attached light fixture by the front door. The problem is that if I center it over the mirror it will make the allignment of the other can lights in the room look off. So the only option is to install it in place of where the existing can light is above the front door. I didn’t realize this until my husband pointed out and am afraid he is right. I feel like it just won’t look right if it isn’t centered above the mirror so think perhaps I should not add the light fixture after all. What do you think?

IMO not that fixture which IMO has too things bad. ONe is it looks like a bare light bulb in a shed ans sceond it has an Edison bulb , worst yellow light ever.. You have a lovely home please choose lighting to go with it. I think you need a more substancial table in that entry and a piece of art above it to get some color in there . I do not love the wagon wheel type light in that LR either but you do need some table or floor lamps in there for sure. IMO a large drum style fixture would be better in the LR and then something similar in the entry You could even go much more contemporary in both spaces

I agree ..on a much more substantial console and art...with perhaps a chair or two?...adding larger rug with substance and color ...this will define this area better as a foyer.......in the seating area...an arched light...floor lamp...or table lamps will supply the type of lighting needed in the seating area...if there is to be a chandelier it would be more visual and effective over a table...at eye level ....in the dining area....

I would want the front window of the DR at least twice as wide. And then put a smaller window, maybe up higher, maybe decorative leaded glass, on the side by the porch. At the last minute I added a small (2'x3') window to our master bedroom just to have light from a second side. Even though I knew it would throw off the symmetry of the room, I love having the light and extra openness that window provides. I can't read the measurements on your plan--what are they for the DR, and the very narrow Study, which looks like it might be too narrow to feel comfortable? Also, why the double doors into the DR from the kitchen? Could you have just the DR between the foyer and garage, with the long wall facing the front, put the study to the right of the foyer, move the J&J bath to the R corner of the house where the porch is, turn and move the BR to the R so the short side is on the front of the house, and put the study on the R side of the foyer? That way, the study would not need to be so narrow, and the bedrooms would be more private as people approach the front of the house, since they would have no windows on the porch. The other BR would now have a window only on the side of the house, and the bathroom (which could use some more space in it) could have a window on the side of the house. Currently you have gray on gray on gray in this room. Since you probably don't want the expense of changing the floor or sofas, I would definitely get a larger rug with some color and pattern. You should be able to put all the front legs of your sofas and chairs under the rug. The coffee table MAY be too small but first place it so that it's centered on the larger sofa. New Pillows with some color and pattern would help a lot. There are plenty of plants that require almost no direct sunlight so no need for fake plants. Can you post pics of your room from all angles? Also, what style and colors do you like?

If the current light fixture isn’t a real pricey one, paint the metal a dark bronze and then see how it looks in your space. those intricate columns and the Spanish influence doors so I think a more formal chandelier suits the space much better than a modern one but I think the metal color should be wrought iron or dark bronze but definitely something bling like you have and perhaps larger to really fills that beautiful ceiling space.

After a closer look it is clear that there really may not be room for a console table of the right scale...a wall of art may be a better option

Do not do the one directly over the door, no one would see it when they walk in anyway. Do the one over the closet door, this will help give you more of an entry area, and people can see it walking in, and out.

Tho you didnt ask, and Houzzers are really good at addressing "other issues", I think you need to balance the large door with a large piece of art with a black frame, and a bench or table with much more thick legs. Seeing as you dont use that door, having a mirror and a table isn't really "getting used" So I would make that space a wow factor when walking up that hallway!
