If you had more appropriately sized shutters they would look better. They are too narrow. White ones. Or deep brown. They need to contrast with the brick. Limb up that tree. It’s a nice tree but it’s hanging too low. (Actually, limb up BOTH trees.) Remove the bushes in front of the sidewalk (to the right of the door) and replace with a really low groundcover. The bushes on the other side of the door look great. I can’t tell - is that a ramp? Are railings required near the door? And do you have room for a BIG pot of flowers by the door? Overall, the house looks very neat and well kept. The grass is nice.

There's a lot going on. Stone, brick, siding, arched window, bay window, shutters. I'm compelled to simplify and edit. If the windows aren't beige and you can paint them, I'd paint it all white in an effort to simplify and edit all the elements so it's more cohesive overall. No shutters. All white means it doesn't matter if the roof is green or green-gray. Use Romabio on the brick and stone, not paint. It's not like painting brick/stone with regular paint so don't let anyone scare you off from the idea by threatening that you're taking a maintenance free element and turning it into something that will require maintenance.... maybe once every decade. If painting it all white is an option, do your own research. Romabio You need to find out how dark of a paint color you can use on the windows. Color specifications for paintable windows usually require an LRV of 55 or higher.

Hello to all and thank you for your help. You had me thinking about these dark colours so I took a little tour in my neighborhood and I learned a lot about what happens to them. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada where we have nearly 365 days of sunshine. What I learned is that painting a house a dark colour one must be very careful about the undertone. I saw a beautiful dark grey house look like a washed out grape on the front and a navy house look purple. My house faces south and will definitely do the same thing, so i am so grateful for you getting me to think about this before I made a decision as this never occurred to me til our discussions. And Trish Walter, I don’t really want to paint the brick because the back of the house also has a terrace that is the sme colour in stone which would then be a lot to maintain, even though it would make it much more modern. The reason I wasn’t wanting to paint the house grey is that my house is an L shape and my neighbor has the opposite L shape so together we kind of make a U shape. Although that house is a split level I think it would look to matchy matchy because of this shape. I like the idea of matching the grout which then would be a light grey/brown and the darker grey windows. So I’m going to check out some colours. You have an interesting house. Some time ago another person posted their mansard roof house. They ended up painting the second floor windows that same color as the roof. It made a big difference. I think you should paint the windows are dark gray. Paint the area around the first floor windows the same color as the garage. Paint the front door an interesting color. Prune or remove the bushes hiding the windows on the right.
