Are you living alone and your fridge is always packed?
Comments (18)Thanks for all of your responds. You just made this girl feels normal =o) I'm not obsessed with food but like some of you, I need to feel "well fed". You're right, it's a security kind of thingy. And yes, most of the food in the fridge are bread, veggies and fruits. They do take lots of room. Same with the pantry too here. Perhaps, it's a cultural thing. In my country, we do want to put on a few extra pounds as we grow older, not obese, just a few pounds. It's a nobel kind of thingy. If you have extra pounds on your body, it means that you have more than enough money and you're well fed. If you're a skinny one, then, you don't have enough. I don't have that many extra pounds on me but I do want extra pounds of food in my fridge =) Well, off to make Blueberry Salad =) You all have a great weekend! Comments (65)Re: being mortgage free. To be honest, I have been mortgage free three times. The first time was in our first small town home which we had paid off by saving every penny and before children( our interest rate was 18% - ouch). Then family came along and we needed a bigger home so basically what we got for our first mortgage free home when we sold it was our down payment for the second home. Then we paid off that but then we decided that our home was falling apart around us (literally and physically) so we borrowed against the value of our home for a gut-renovation. That mortgage we just paid off 2 weeks ago. In hindsight, given the real estate values we should have kept the townhome and rented it out. But, who knew? Our goal was to be mortgage free by the time we were 60 and we just made it.The latest Canadian stats I can find are from 2008 and it says that the average age of those with a mortgage is 45 and those now mortgage-free is 62. I suspect the 62 has risen a little bit. But it really is about personal choice on how we spend our money....See MoreName 10 Things You Love About Your Oldhouse
Comments (15)I've been in my 'new' home for nine months now, and wouldn't trade it at all. It's from between 1920 and 1930, and even though there's a lot of work to be done, there's treasure abounds.. The genuine hardwood flooring in every room. The kitchen has tiles over the lovely floor, but I'll see about removing those... 9. Except for the newer front door and back door, all theinterior doors are the originals. Each door has a crystal-cut glass (assumeably) knob, the locks are still in tact even though I need to buy a key for them, and every one has the original brass faceplate and hinge and pins. 8. The very deep and extremely heavy enamel-coated cast iron tub. No, it's not a clawfoot, but it's still nice. :) 7. That of all the crappy remodeling things done to the house, someone had enough insight to install ceiling fans in all the rooms. The house has NO insulation, none of the windows open and gets very, very hot here in summer... 6. Mr. Kent, the spookie that still resides here and likes to play little pranks on us when he's bored. The Kents were the first renters of this house before my neighbor's mother bought it. He's harmless, but he does do some interesting things lol 5. The mysterious crumbling shack in front of where I park the car. It's got two little rooms with floors and one wide space that's still dirt, but too narror for a car (even a Model T). The smaller one has lots of shelves, and the longer one is, well, empty. There's an old trunk key and remnants of really ugly wallpaper. Both doors have the skeleton lock and a white porcelain doorknob. 4. The two great pecan trees in the front yard, the many rosebushes, the blueberry bush, the tigerlilies and night-blooming jasmines... I'm going to help and revamp all the lovely plants, but I can't wait for pecan pie this fall! 3. The abundance of cabinets... They go up to the ceiling. //_o Even on a chair I can't reach them, but if nothing else there's room to put stuff. 2. The lovely brick fireplace that was once the centerpiece of my livingroom. It's been painted white and brown ( //_X) and the terracotta hearthstone needs to be replaced, but it's absolutely lovely. 1. The MAGNIFICENT upright piano dating back to 1915 that's been in the house since it was new and has remained here ever since. I've got someone coming in this week to tell me how much restoration it needs, but I fully intend to save this piece of history....See MoreDo you like having a window sill to set things on over your sink?
Comments (17)VERY OT for Florantha & Bmorepanic Florantha, I knew zip about Tomtes....never even heard the word. Thank you so much for that very interesting link! My Great Grandma would tell us about her favorite Gremlin....they were best pals. If we left a little candy in the package before we went to bed, the darn candy was gone in the morning! Darn Favorite Gremlin went around our beds specifically looking for left\-over candy...ate it. Favorite Gremlin also did other strange things: Put Christmas tree up after we all went to bed, made cookies with our names on them for our birthdays, etc. But if we were bad to Great\-Grandma, look out! Favorite Gremlin didn't like us going against her and would find a way to get us back. LOL Again, really enjoyed reading link! Bmorepanic, I've seen you mention bondo before. I bought what I thought was Bondo.....it was in a tube, rolled. To activiate it you cut a piece off and kneaded it with your fingers. After prepping the area well, I thinly applied it to the very deep gouge left in our fridge by the pro restorers after the water damage in our kitchen. So the Bondo got put on, thinly and I thought all was going to work out perfectly as once I sanded it I would cover it with the matching appliance paint. Not so. That stuff can not be sanded! I got so tired (arms ached & hand cramped up) the first day trying to sand the bondo to a somewhat smooth finish that I gave up. Tried a couple hours the next day, gave up. Now I just leave all the sanding discs/blocks on the corner of the counter and if I walk by with nothing else to do, I'll give the area some sanding....not that it's doing any good. What's the best way/what tool? to sand this stuff once it's sets? I've got lumps and bumps on the door of a fridge where a gouge used to be. At this point, I'd rather have the gouge!...See MoreTina Marie
