how to reduce noise level in semi-open home w/tile floors

Our house has what I would describe as a semi-open floor plan and tile floors throughout most of the main level. It also has large windows, and some wainscoting and a vaulted ceiling in the dining room. We have five boys ages 1 to 11 and the noise level bothers me on a daily basis. Unfortunately replacing the tile floor is not an option. What else could be done to try to reduce the noise level? I’ve used heavier drapes in the dining room and living room and a large rug and rug pad in the eat-in/open space, but can’t tell that those have helped with the noise level. The living room has leather furniture which probably doesn’t help but I can’t replace it right now. I am planning on getting a couple runners and rug pads for the hallway (it is L-shaped though the pics only show one end of it). Would removing the wainscoting in the dining room help much?
