Brands of Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Comments (20)Also checking into engineered hardwood for a below grade concrete floor. I don't know about the Prolex. Their website has very little information and looks like it is from the '90's. Doesn't scream innovation at any rate. I also couldn't find their site straight away. I had to go via a Yelp listing of all things. Any eco friendly brands of engineers hardwood out there? No formaldehyde, no toxic glues? Use of post consumer content in the manufacture? Moisture resistant? Pergo, it seems is famous, but garbage. A shame because I saw a really nice looking "Pergo Outlast+ 10mm Laminate Flooring" with "spill protect." The color was Applewood. I don't know what "spill protect" is, but hey, I spill stuff all the time. It's supposedly waterproof, which probably means it's vynl or something. Looking at the picture I took of the label it seems the "core" is 10mm in the fine print....See Moreflooring woes solid hardwood VS LVP
Comments (49)You know, to me "fake" is not that big of a deal in some things where cleaning or lifespan can be an issue. Yes, like you, I would love authentic everything including hardwood floors. But I have cats. I always have and I always will. They bring absolute joy to my life. I have lost all three in the last couple of years, Amara my most recent loss left us last week, but more will come. I also want beautiful things around me. My description of my home is "comfortable elegance." Neither word has any more emphasis than the other; both are essential to creating a home I love and love to share. But cleaning and damage is a big deal too. I have no intention of spending a lot of time that would require high maintenance. I look at my faux Christmas tree as gorgeous even without the scent. (I buy real wreaths to hang high enough so the cats cannot get to them just so I can get the scent.) I look at my LVP flooring as incredibly beautiful because I got a color I like and any accidents including hairballs are easy to wipe up and I never have to worry about it. (Ditto if the washer ever fails.) If you compare one to the other you may find yourself adding regret and judgmental attitudes to your perspective. But if you acknowledge their differences and choose one, based upon the advantages you prefer, then I think you might find you will have few if any regrets. You won't mourn what you can't have (both easy care and real hardwood) but instead you will embrace and celebrate what you did choose because it makes you happy. And that is all that matters....See MoreHelp!! engineered wood flooring advice
Comments (45)@kenuss I believe mine is laguna vibes driftwood, I'm out of town until tomorrow but I can confirm that when I get home. Yes, I'm still very happy with it and get lots of compliments. No one knows it isn't full through real wood. It cleans beautifully. If something sticky drips in cracks you I may need to use a microfiber cloth by hand here or there but that is rare. It does have a lot of texture throughout each board with tiny grooves if you haven't actually seen a piece in person. I have 2 dogs and a parrot and other than sweeping it with a cordless hard floor vacuum with a soft roller in it a couple times a week for dog hair, beach sand & dust and moist mopping with a microfiber mop with sprayer or my mopping machine occasionally it doesn't need anything heavy duty or time consuming....See MoreHallmark engineered hardwood
Comments (4)And another reason why things look drastically different from website shots: INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH lighting! The professional photos are done using a HUGE amount of lighting. Just like super models in a photo shoot, the 5-10 lighting diffusers used to 'light' the photo make a HUGE difference. And that's BEFORE they use 'photoshop' to make the floors look better than they actually are. Once you have decided on your COLOUR (you have 3 different colours with 3 different DEPTHS of colour) then you start shopping for the colour. At that point you choose a few samples in that COLOUR. Then you narrow it down in the home lighting (BTW....do the lighting FIRST and THEN choose the sample that looks BEST in the NEW lighting situation). Once you have narrowed it down you can then purchase a single box to ensure you are seeing what you THOUGHT you were seeing in the sample....See MoreSJ McCarthy
