Want: Bay Laurel plant or good cuttings
Comments (3)Hi joy, I can't be sure from the picture that this is Laurus nobilis. I will be cooking with it so I would like to be sure. But thanks for the offer. Anyone else have Laurus nobilis - edible bay leaf plant, aka sweet laurel?...See MoreHAVE fresh Laurel Bay leaf, laurel bus, rose hip mix
Comments (3)Aloha! :) I have natal plum, and Duranta seeds, both fresh. I also have these lovely items for Zone 9: Cordyline terminalis (red variegated Ti plant)- Indoor/outdoor perennial, said to bring luck, non toxic too.-2009 www.seedshawaii.com Leea rubra 'Violacea' .-2009 www.seedshawaii.com Gorgeous tender perennial with lacy purple foliage. It is a great indoor-outdoor plant for use indoors in winter and outside on the patio in summer. The purple color holds well indoors in moderate to bright light. I don't want laurel seeds or rose hip seeds. I've tried growing those before and it failed because I don't have the patience required to get them to germinate. Please email me. You may have some other seeds I might be interested in, or maybe you could send me some other items I use in my seed hobby such as pre-made seed envelopes, small ziploc baggies for packing seeds, pretty stickers, stationery, etc. Thanks!...See MoreBay laurel wilting fast
Comments (7)I would soak it now, in its smaller container. If your soil mix is too peaty, the watering you are doing may merely be running through the pot without even moistening the soil. Your tree has been inside now, so I would not be moving it out now with temps near 0 C.. Containerized plants are not as cold hardy as those in the ground. I don't know what gardening zone you are located in, but some areas of Norway experience fairly mild winters and you might be able to plant it outside in a good microclimate if you can get it through the winter. (Though not sure how it would respond to the lack of heat in the growing season, but I believe they are successful in Britain, so maybe.) As for container, it would definitely prefer a larger size. I think Flora's objection is doing it at this time of year. Frankly, I do transplanting when needed throughout the year as I do a lot of florescent light gardening in the basement, and tend to keep the indoor air fairly humid. I agree about keeping it as cool as possible when inside. (I used to grow them as containerized and just move into into a sunny garage for the winter.) You are going to get different opinions on the success of winter transplanting as this does depend on a lot of factors (humidity, light, temperatures, species, even your latitude). I would add Bay Laurel do, in general, transplant reasonably well. Good luck!...See MoreDying Bay Laurel
Comments (11)My container-planted bay tree suffered from being pot bound this year. I found my tree was fine and healthy that way for a few years, but in summer it was beginning to suffer with leaves starting to brown and drop. When I checked it later in the year it was pot bound despite being repotted into a larger pot only the previous year. Worse still I had it in a metal container and we had a short-term heatwave - I wonder if the roots close to the edge of the pot were getting scorched. I took the decision to plant it in the ground - I'll still clip it - and it's made an excellent recovery. They are hardy outside all year here in southern England and I never took it indoors even when it was potted, so I'd have thought definitely would be OK in the ground in California. That said, my problems were gradual - I saw it worsening over months, not all at once. That does make me wonder whether it could be some disease. My bay tree, Acer palmatum and Ribes odoratum are all prone to get scale but I wipe the things off the bark with a damp cloth. Doesn't entirely eradicate them but reduces the numbers considerably so that they don't do too much harm....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
