If we have a white dog...then should we have a white kitchen?
Comments (36)Awwwwww, these are all soooo cute. And very well-coordinated. ; ) Our whole family oohed, ahhhed, and giggled over your posts. : ) Our Feliz (you can sing her song with me: "Feliz naughty-dog...") is a three year old poodle-something that we got a year ago. I tease that she's crossed with a fool, which makes her a "foodle". She's a *great dog and has been an incredibly good fit for our family. Believe it or not, she does occasionally peel herself off the furniture to help clean up the kitchen. She especially likes helping "pre-rinse" the dishes as they're loaded into the DW. I think we'll have to match our floors to the dirt, since fluffy white flooring is definitely out of the question. :-) I was over to the house today, tacking up all kinds of paint chips. We're going to have to repaint pretty much everything downstairs, so it'll be a fresh start. Everywhere. Fun, but a bit overwhelming. It's an old house with high ceilings. Painted woodwork. Wood floors (that need refinishing.) Quite a bit of light in most of the rooms. The kitchen is a bit darker though, having a window on the north side and being in the middle of the run of the rooms. We'll be opening the kitchen some, so it needs to work with the whole scheme. Whatever that is. Maybe I should build off of Olivia instead?...See MoreWhat color grey should I paint the walls?
Comments (14)I agree with what's been said, you'll likely need a lighter gray and swatch it around the rooms. Have you considered Stonington gray BM HC-170? It's on the same strip as Revere Pewter but has a much cooler feel. It appears that your tile has a true gray tone in it, and something like Stonington might work better. I'd advise against an accent wall, it feels very 90's and most are unsuccessful. Have you thought about painting the trim that divides the upper and lower levels the same color as the wall? Instead of dividing the two, the room will feel more cohesive. Interesting architecture, good luck!...See MoreCAN WE MAKE THIS BEAUTIFUL & AIRY?
Comments (16)Get rid of the glass, the fake elements and the dark wood, as in the inspiration pictures above, and you will have a classy backdrop that most of us can only dream about. I think you're going in the right direction from what you've said in your comments. Do warm white walls and warm beige upholstered furniture. If you bleach or paint the wood it will actually look more cozy than the dungeon-dark wood you have now, and much more classical-current. You'll have much more freedom to furnish and decorate with light walls and wood, and it will look fabulous. By all means get rid of the fake stone if it doesn't look good once it's painted, but it may just blend in and give you a more textured look than most of us have with our walls....See MoreA blank slate... Should we paint it all white?
Comments (3)First I would remove that trim in the hallways it actually looks cheap and not actually wainscoting just a chair rail that is too low, As for color I love grayed/ greens with wood IMO much more neutral than almost any other choice. It is nature’s backdrop for every color . I like Healing Aloe BM or Gray Wisp if you like a bit more to the gray side...See MoreDesign Girl
