I went through this last year. We also did the Certainteed granite gray. Sorry to say, but I finally gave up and painted the door white. Looks nice, and I am happy with it. I figure I can always repaint, but the process was just taking too long. I tried a lot of colors, mostly reds and plums. More samples than I care to count. My only suggestion is drive around your neighborhood and really look. I realized that a red door was more common than the white. Seems like 2 out of 3 doors around here are painted some variation of red. I think you also have to be careful with them and granite gray. Its a funny color. A house near me put up kind of burgundy shutters and painted the door the same color. It makes the gray look pink!

Tony, nothing matches FPoE That paint is spectacular . and no, no chip brush will do it for this paint. It's not a beginner paint. (meaning, painting a door with it your first time is prob not the best idea to brush) The Hollandlac Brilliant is oil base and has the best pigments of any paint. They are also the only company to guarantee their white will not yellow. The have a hybrid line called Eco. Goes on like oil, cleans up w/water. I've used that a few times and the finish is equally beautiful. Jane, if you are buying a mahogany door, then just do a natural spar varnish/UV protectant finish. you must get the UV varnish or oil. and yes, it will need to be done yearly if it gets full sun. Door companies will not honor warranties on wood doors unless there is a certain measure of overhead protection.

What color do you like? We live in hot and sunny Texas with a south facing wood door and we painted ours royal blue. About 10 years ago. No fading at all. Sherwin WIlliams paint.. Will the shutters stay?

The warm browns and rusts in your stone are trending again, at least for interiors. I love the green-y hues above. I also like the light blue that you currently have, except paint the sidelights too. You have a very pretty house!
