debrak2008, I have to figure out how to post a pic here first :P. But the countertop is those yellowish cultured marble top (you see a lot of those in the older houses) but it's not one-piece. The sink is an undermount sink, so it's just like the typical granite top with undermount sink you see now. BUT mine is not granite top obviously, and the sink is rusty and scratched. sjhockeyfan and weedyacres, Thanks for your link! Yes I looked on craigslist and saw some ads for prefab granite tops too. And my friend told me about this too. But my problem is I can't find my size, esp. the 72 inch SINGLE sink countertop... :(. And if I custom made that one, it's expensive. The worst is that I need one 60 inch (I found that this countertop is the only one that's the most typical size) and one 72 inch that's matching right, cuz they're in the same jack & jill bathroom! For the 36 inch countertop for the half bath, the problem is the depth is 1 inch more shallow than the typical tops, so it's 20 inch. And I can't go any deeper because the top is right next to the door opening so 21" countertop won't work! So yes, my house has some strange bathrooms and I figured either we spent more money to hire someone to renovate (but we don't have that funds now) the bathrooms, or we try to make small changes. Of course, I wish I could be as handy as most of the members here then the problem can be solved easily :( Anyways, thanks for all your answers! Please do share if you have any more insights. I have a single sink vanity in the bathroom off our master bedroom (which unfortunately is not a master bath) and another single sink vanity (a few inches bigger) in our master bedroom. We are looking to keep the cabinets but replace the counter tops. We have the faucet and above-counter sink in mind. Those would require two cuts on each countertop: one for the faucet and one for the drain. We are new to do the DIY world of home improvements but we're fearless and love to learn, so beat with me if I lack knowledge of terminology, I like to make up for that with a detailed explanation! So the vanity inside the bathroom is in a corner and touches two walls: the back and right side wall. The vanity in the master bedroom touches three walls: the left and back wall and a right half wall. So I think we will require the backsplash that matches the countertops for the sides and back of the counters. So, I'm here trying to find the best route to accomplish this DIY. We live south of Denver, CO and would like to install it ourselves to keep costs down. In addition to keeping costs down, I've been advised to check out remnant yards of stores that sell/install countertops since we don't need entire pieces like that of a large kitchen counter. Since these two vanities are separate but relate to the same bathroom, I am keeping the consistency across the two. We are not set on the color or the exact rock, so we are open. Please feel free to share any advice you may have! Again, we are inexperienced but everyone has to start somewhere and we are eager! I have a 48" vanity w/an 18"X13" sink. It's a perfect size for this vanity. I believe it would be too big for the 32" (your countertop will hang over 1"). It all depends on how much counter space you like. 13" is a good depth though, regardless of vanity size. I'd say your 13-15" would be a good size for the 32'' you want something like this, with at least this much on the sides

It all depends. Maybe you should do a search on Houzz, specifying “in photos” and look at bathrooms until you zero in on a style of vanity you like. Measure your bathroom space where the vanity will go so that you know the minimum and maximum length for your vanity. Then shop. Look online. Go to bathroom suppliers like QualityBath.com, Build.com, or even Houzz (specify “in shopping” in your search from the drop-down). Look at prices for cabinets like you liked in your style search. You can specify many things in a search on these shopping sites, including length and depth, top or no top included, how many doors and drawers. Once you have a design in mind, make up a drawing with your specifications and male several copies of it. Call local cabinet makers and ask if they will give you estimates.
