It seems to me that the plan needs to be revised. The center bearing wall needs to be retained where possible or posts shown in the bathroom, pantry etc. As for the off-center front door, I would center it, add sidelights, add wood columns and find another location for the hall closet. It doesn't have to be next to the front door. I would try to create a more formal entrance to the dining room. I would also move the door to the bathroom to the hall out of sight of the dining room for the comfort of guests. Is a shower really needed for this floor? I don't see a guest room.

Thanks everyone! Kind of sad that it's taken 3 years to get to this point (and still not completely done) but it is what it is when the last part of the build is DIY and we have two teens with activities every weekend. Just this spring our yard is starting to look like something not in a construction zone. I always joked that our yard looked like the apocalypse with the dirt, weeds, tools scattered everywhere, broken concrete, etc. Slowly but surely we are cleaning it up and planting things. I finally felt like it was close enough to share how it looks in real life. Without all the help from the people who chimed in on this thread, not sure the entry would be what is today. I seriously love it and people stop often and say how charming it is. So thank you for giving me (and my architect) some very helpful advice! For those who want to know, the color of the front door is Bainbridge Blue by Benjamin Moore. And walking down the stairs yesterday afternoon, I realized that we get a glimpse of the flower box from the inside. Now I just need to put the effort in and keep those plants alive! I do NOT have a green thumb. :)

How do you enter the room? Is it through the french doors? If so is there enough room for them to open? I see an arched opening into another room, will you be entering or viewing the space from this room. Movement through the room may influence furniture placement. Walk around the room as you expect to use it and feel how comfortable or uncomfortable the movement is. You may want to consider having a pair of chairs close together with a small table between them facing the other pair mirror this arrangement. This might give more space to open the french doors, or walk between the wall and chairs. If you had a larger piece of art or a grouping between the two windows, so it almost felt like a third window, you may not feel the need to center the chairs there. It's like you want to fill the space between the windows, but do it with art and not furniture.

Thanks for your comments! We were originally planning to go w/ option B (no wall)....but the more I look at it, the more I dislike it. The off center door certainly isn't ideal, but I think I can live with it since it'll save us several thousand dollars to not have to expand the left side. We dont have an architect or GC. We are doing almost everything ourselves, which is why we are keeping it simple and not bigger than it needs to be. (My husband's family has designed and built many houses) Much thanks! 😊
