Want this (don't laugh) to turn out like Redroze's kitchen.
Comments (2)Hi Murrywoods, I agree with Palimpset. If you post a propoed layout it would really help. Also, besides the dark hardwood floors and white Chantilly Lace cabinets, what other elements were you planning on using from our kitchen? Ex. Layout, pendants over an island, etc? It would really help us to advise you....See MoreWhat to do with tiny kitchen pantry that I don't need?
Comments (6)Just a note. If this is a condo, it's possible that pipe vents and electric may be running through your walls to the unit above or below. This could limit your possibilities. If this is a condo, I recommend you try to find some other unit with extensive remodeling so you can find out what might be running in the walls. Otherwise, it's time to make some small openings in the soffits and walls to see what's in there. Personally, I would change the drywall pantry to a small cabinet pantry. You'll still gain counter top, but not lose the benefit of a pantry that most people prefer. Two photos showing the same thing are not as helpful as two photos showing different sides of the kitchen....See MoreKitchen update... thought I knew what I was doing... I DON’T
Comments (110)Vastly better, although I think the hood and cabs should be the same height. The window looks 100% better without those two narrow cabs flanking it, too. BTW, I would swap the fridge and the tall pantry cabinet so that your fridge doesn't open into that wall (and so the pantry cabinet isn't between your fridge and your landing space for prep items)....See Moredon't want added kitchen cabinetry to look like an afterthought
Comments (26)You said you need this for more counter space when you are having parties. So imagine your party, with people sitting at the island. You need to leave enough room so that they can pull out the chairs to get up and sit down. Then imagine other people, at the same time, standing in front of the 18" piece and serving themselves. The space is too tight. But, depending on how you entertain, it would work if you remove the island chairs. The island and the 18" piece would both be for serving only, with nobody sitting at the island. You might consider putting furniture there that can be easily moved, which would let you tailor your serving style to the type and size of gathering. A pair of rolling carts? A sofa table/console table? You could add casters if you want it moveable. Could double as a bar in another room. Add a stone or tile top if the surface is not suitable for serving dishes. table or this one with drawers...See Moregroberts0921
