Comments (6)I saw an incredible idea on the Design to Sell show with a $2000 budget for the ENTIRE house (and they include accessories in that budget). When they first showed the kitchen I thought, OK they have met the impossible, what can they do for those cabinets (just like yours) that will entice buyers. They added a thin 2"(?) wide strip of wood and outlined the cabinet doors and drawers making them into a shaker style cabinet. There are lots of ideas for priming the laminate so the new wood and laminate match. I've noticed knobs and pulls (contractor pack) pulls your eye away from slight inperfections if you do this. I didn't see the end but it looked like it was going to do the trick. Shaker cabinets are in style now and this should work. Hopefully you have some additional money for countertops, but if not put some beautiful things out to draw your eye to those items instead of the countertops....See MoreRoof and Exterior Paint Colors For a 1980's Home
Comments (12)Unfortunately my original message seems to have disappeared and I am unable to find it, so here is my original message again to the best of my memory... I am replacing the existing shake roof to a duroid roof when the weather permits, and can choose an array of colours for which I am asking for your suggestions. ALSO, I will be repainting the entire exterior and would love your suggestions as to the colors for the main part, trim, garage door, and front door. PLEASE NOTE: The large evergreen tree that is in front of the house is no longer there as it was very recently taken down A large blue pot has been converted to a fountain and sits on the ground level stump. I will try and take an updated photo as soon as our current very stormy weather subsides....See More1980s Straight Ranch needs updates
Comments (3)I would do the windows and doors first. Replacement window trim is done in aluminum, of course usually white, most versatile color. But have seen replacement windows in a dark color and trim in dark color. Have in mind what color you want for siding. I would think the siding is easier to install after windows replaced otherwise the window installers have to mess with the siding some. Soffits/overhangs are usually done in aluminum so have that done before siding too. The roof, I assume you mean shingles. Im not sure, maybe easier to pick color for shingles once siding is on... But, when I had my shingles replaced the roofers had to mess with my siding a bit because of flashing needed to be redone, to bring it up to current code, where my garage roof abuts my house, against siding , so maybe do roof before siding, and let roofers know you are replacing siding. I would imagine it would be cheaper overall to do windows and siding at the same time because of some overlap in procedures but I don't know that. Get estimates on both separate and at same time....See MoreOur 1980s pool desperately needs an update
Comments (7)I would replace the brick coping with a natural stone with pieces a minimum of 30" long. Lose the boulders. I see the patio is natural stone. Use natural stone again, but opt for larger pieces. The numerous joints make it look too busy. Replace the tile with glass tile. If you choose natural stone on the raised wall areas, make sure the stone runs below the water line. I see a lot of pools where the stone runs down on top of the perimeter tile. To me, it looks really cheesy. I noticed the spa's bench had tiles along the edge. When we put tiles along the edge, they are generally 14"-16" apart set in a diamond configuration. Right now, your spa looks like a public spa. Sorry. We set the tiles the same way on step edges and benches as well. Lose all the brick on the steps and use the same material for the pool coping on the step treads. One piece treads-no joints. Only at the ends. The interior finish can be in the gray family of colors. It's best to choose several tile and plaster finishes, set them outside next to each other to see how they look in the natural light. Plaster colors change when wet, under water and at different depths at different times of the day. See how your coping material ties in also with other materials. Look at finished pools by your contractor to see them in real time....See MoreRelated Professionals
