Comments (5)I don't believe 300.3(B)(3) would include the words cable and cords if it only applied to individual conductors. NM and plastic boxes would comply with 300.20(B) because it says where, and since we don't have any "where" single conductors pass through ferrous metals, we are by default already in compliance....See MoreCan 4 way switches be used as one way?
Comments (10)Does the code specify somewhere that single pole light switches must be labled on and off and installed in the orientation so that on is up? One of my NEC class instructors had a good story about the honney well plant that he works as the head electrician. Says an inspector flagged the campus for having three way switches that are not labled on and off hah. As a joke and to suit this misinformed inspectors requests he had a solution. Next to the light switches in a portion of the building he printed a sign and mounted it next to each one. "When the switch at the end of the hallway is up and this one is down, light is on. When the switch at the end of the hallay is down and this one is down, light is off........................." But is there any code as to snap switches orientation for lighting loads. Know it would matter if it serves as a disconect but what about lights?...See MoreWiring 4 wall lights w/2 3-way switches
Comments (1)The order that the electricity flows is switch, switch, lights. Multiple wires at some lights mean they are travelers from one switch to the other and do not get connected to all the others. A physical inspection by someone familiar with 3way switches would be in order. We have no way of telling from here which wires are incoming power, travelers or outgoing power. A wiring book will be helpful. If you study a few wiring setups it can be figured out what goes where....See MoreCeiling Fan with 4way and 3way Switches - Problems
Comments (13)Hi Greg, Could I bug you one more time? Old fan: 3 wires - black for fan motor, red for light, white neutral New fan: 2 wires: black for motor, white for neutral I've got three wires at the ceiling...black (always hot), red (controlled by switches), and white. If I hook up fan unit to black and white, switches are now wall ornaments. If I hook up to red and white, I can shut off power to the unit. So, I will be not using one wire at the box. Am I understanding this correctly? The documentation/manual with the fan assumes hot and neutral at the box. Thanks! :)...See Moreksd4423
