Has anyone built a Architectural Design Home?

Comments (11)You guys are rough.... Some people apparently like the look of garages and I won't argue that point. But the friendship door right next to a front door? I have a friendship door now because I have a side load garage. I don't like the concept after building it this way 8 years ago but my wife still does. Either way, in this layout it is truly confusing. There is a spec house in my area that also has a friendship door on the front of the house - less confusing than this one. But our friendship doors that in style? It confuses guests and their hosts. Which door are they coming to? Are they driveway parkers or road parkers? Do they pull close to the garage doors or near the end of the driveway? Options can be confusing. Next house - 1 door! Circular drive for guests. And some people like dark houses. I love that the only uncovered front elevation window is into a closet - that will really spill the light everywhere. And how the brightest room in the house by far is the master bedroom. At least the cars will have a sunny spot to park with uncovered windows on 3 sides. But I get it - the front garage is huge for a modest house. And that driveway - a full 3 cars wide. There is a house around these parts with a 5 bay front load garage and the house sits on top. There is an entry way between the garage doors that heads back to the kitchen/family room. Kind of looks like a place you take your car to get serviced. Husband designed it - big car guy. DIfferent strokes I guess. Mark - I have to say I was kind of annoyed by your tone on one of my threads but you do make me laugh.......See MoreArchitectural Design # 14662RK - anyone built or seen?
Comments (10)Plans are here, https://www.architecturaldesigns.com/house-plans/modern-farmhouse-plan-rich-with-features-14662rk This is a dark house. The kitchen especially will be very dark, and the living room too with deep covered porches at each end. Do you need an eating area attached to the island (which makes the island that much larger and cumbersome to walk around) when you have a dedicated dining table mere steps away? Not a fan of plans where you walk in through the front door into to find yourself smack dab in the kitchen, dining room, and/or living room. There's no closet by the front entrance either. Depending on the orientation of the site, the garage seems to get pride of place, which is a curious choice. There seem to be a lot of barn/sliding/pocket doors, which you should think about because there's not a lot of wall space for things like art, mirrors, or shelving on the walls if you need or want such things. If there will be a TV on the fireplace wall, anyone who wants to sleep in the master bedroom will get the sound of the TV through the adjoining wall. The layout and traffic paths seem very cumbersome. I would definitely do cpartist's recommended exercise with colored pens to trace the various paths, to do laundry (getting it from and back to the bedrooms), making and serving a meal (including trips to the pantry). I would also imagine a scenario if you're in the kitchen cooking, a child comes through on the way to the bathroom and on the way back to grab a glass of water, and then someone comes to the front door. I get the the exterior has everything on the current trendy wish list, and the garage exterior is as cute as a garage can be made to be. And the focus on the pool at the website is clever and seductive. But you'll be spending most of your time in the house, and it's just not designed properly to live well or very functionally....See MoreAny feedback on this family home plan? has anyone built one similar?
Comments (54)Rachel please do yourself a favor and ignore DE. She really is someone who is here just to stir the pot. Plus she acts like she knows all about design and architecture but anything she has learned is just from one or two books. In fact each time she opens her mouth she more than proves her lack of knowledge and understanding of architecture and design. Better off listening to our excellent architects, Virgil, Mark, architectrunnerguy, RES as well as some of our contractors, Worthy, Millworkman, Jeffrey Grenz to name a few. In fact my house is as good as it is because I listened to Mark, architectrunnerguy and RES. Additionally are some very talented designers who regularly post....See Morerrah
