Desk -- hum. It's really a long wood table. Nice wood top, but no detailing. A small filing cabinet fits under it for storage. I'd take a photo, but you'd be horrified -- it's a holy mess right now. I translate part-time and do computer-based volunteer work, so I spend a lot of time at the desk. That's why I've placed it in front of the window. There will be shelves above the right side of it (against the wall). The chair is the cheapest of the Ektorp line and not all that comfy; it's really a guest/cat chair. I read on the sofa with cat company (and in bed). There is another entrance to the kitchen off the hallway. It's here to the right But I'll have a pretty white storage bench there, with display shelves above it. It's the only way I can fit in a place to sit on near the entrance door. That ugly square wall scone, by the way, is being replaced! Your idea of blocking off the living-room entrance to the kitchen was the first thing I thought of when I saw the apartment, but I gave it up as being impractical for me and settled on a much-need bookcase that would at least hide the side of the fridge. Mirrors -- yes, I've got an eye on those. I don't have any, but I realize that in that room anything that reflects will be a good thing; they're on the ever growing list of things to get. I'm very happy with the view. The apartment is on the third floor; what you see in front of the windows is a very large school yard, with the school at the far end -- a whole street block away. And there's trees! Paintings, including the blue clouds: my first husband was (and still is) and artist. The paintings are all his. I didn't like the parquet floors when I first saw them. They've since been sanded and re-varnished. They're now several shades lighter and look much, much better. So ... wall colours for this room?

I"m having trouble reading some of your writing. Will the bed fit on the opposite wall? How far into the room would it come? An open bookcase will create the illusion of separation and still let in the light.

Here's a floor plan that will work in this space. Don't make your studio a big bedroom. Or a kitchen with a bed! Take advantage of the windows by opening up your space by locating the seating at the window side. Add a luxurious window treatment, ceiling to floor and don't skimp. This plan will allow you to have a full three seat sofa, and a lounge chair. Wrap the bed with tall bookcases, for display and storage with decorative boxes. You may consider a four poster bed to give the bed it's own cubicle, maybe with sheer curtains. On the kitchen side, cover the back of the bookcase with wallpaper, and a wire grid for cooking utensils. (Anything for organization in a studio). The dining table is 60 x 30 oval with a server or hutch facing. Designing small spaces in NYC for many years, the design trick is full size furniture and less pieces, great art, good lighting, and music (of course!) It can be a challenge for sure. My two young adult sons are both in studios, different configurations and they have different needs for their spaces. So, what are your needs? Do you do any work at home? Do you need space for some kind of computer, laptop, tablet? Do you use your device to do all your life management like pay bills, make appointments, etc? Or do some things require paper, pen, and maybe storing the paper? Do you have a tv, or does your computer device screen suffice? Do you game? Stream? with friends in person? Do you cook/bake? Do you need to accommodate books or the like? How’s the view out that wonderful wall of windows? How long is the wall between the bathroom and the living room? Would a bed fit, either lengthwise or widthwise? Are there any vents or electric breaker boxes you need to account for? (My sons have radiators, and especially for one of them, the radiators really throw a wrench in furniture placement.) One of my son’s studio actually has the kitchen around a corner, which is nice. The other one found a screen to separate his kitchen (he is not good about dealing with dishes, but also there is so little space, a lot of things end up sitting out.) So, how tidy are you? Do you have a piano keyboard? Seems like an odd question, but my one son has to accommodate one. There is only one closet, is it enough for your clothes? Does your climate call for seasonal outerwear? Would a set of drawers in the closet be enough for you, or will you need a set of drawers or a wardrobe in the living area? Do you need to accommodate a bicycle or scooter?
