Please help us pull together the decor of our master bedroom
Comments (36)Ontario mom, I am posting pictures of our "blue room" that isn't actually painted blue. I think that the blue of Scandinavian Christmas plates looks best on a color other than blue. The white Holly Kay linked to, or something similar, would be beautiful for pine furniture and floors. This is a sort of montage of photos of the room. I have about 100 plates and cannot display them all, but they were the starting point for the room. It was already painted this gold color. I used other blue and white pieces i already owned (urns, vases, Foo dogs, etc) in this room as well. We purchase the oil of children on the beach and I framed it myself in the plein air style. Sorry for the horrible iPhone photos....this shows the plates above the headboard. We used DS2's childhood furniture (armoire and dark pine single size sleigh bed ). We recently put rustic white oak floors in the room and I added this blue and taupe-y gray rug: Closer of plates above headboard (these are Norwegian) and other blue and white stuff on shelf in bed alcove: In the corner is a display thing bought at Ballard Back Room in Atlanta (their discount place). They called it a bookcase but it is perfect for displaying plates in a corner! This is an interesting side table my mother gave me for my birthday about seven years ago. It is a mosaic top made up of broken pieces of blue and white china. On it is a lamp that was in my childhood room...a little too "good" for the rest of the room, but I wanted to use what I had. The bedding is a discontinued Ralph Lauren pattern I found on ebay. They incorporate shades of navy, royal and light blue, which is a perfect foil for the plates. I use the white matellasse cover on the bed with the comforter folded up at the foot. Hope these photos help you envision a blue and white room :-)...See MoreHelp me decorate my bedroom.
Comments (4)we had that pink tile in the downstairs powder room of our old house and it had a little pink checker board pattern floor tile. We did a "remodel" of the bathroom for about $1000. I removed the old toilet, had a guy install new floor tile over existing - the tile was in great shape so he went right over it. That was $400. I had a guy come in and do the spray finish over the pink tile - that was another $400. It was really easy for him since toilet was still gone from the floor guy being there. Then a new toilet was $200. I did the spray stuff in white. The existing sink was white. The new toilet was white. I painted the walls above in light blue. I wish I could fine a before picture!...See MoreHelp with layout/decor for dining and bedroom-pics and floorplan
Comments (0)Hello! I would love some suggestions for two large rooms in our house. I would like to add area rugs and curtains in both rooms. My taste is on the traditional side. I have found options online, but am nervous about mixing colors and patterns. The dining room is in the center of our house. We have access to our backyard and kitchen through this room so it sees a lot of foot traffic. Our table is 8ft. I would assume a 9x12 rug is recommended? Low pile and indoor/outdoor compatible? We have a heavy duty mat on the patio for dirty paws and shoes. Should we do a 9x12 rug and an additional runner from patio door to kitchen entry? What kind of window treatment would be best for our single window and backdoor/window combo? Should the rod extend way beyond the door so the curtain slides all the way? Our bedroom is quite large and we have recently purchased a bed set, but I'm not sure if the layout works. A 9x12 rug would fit under the bed and both night stands would fit inside. If we placed a rug under the bed, would it look bare for the other half of the room to have nothing? What about a runner from the bedroom entry along the bathroom and closet door? I am open to moving the dressers around. The tall dresser could go on the wall to the right of the double window, I have a standing mirror in that corner now. The wide dresser is opposite the double window, and I plan on hanging the matching mirror above it. The giant dog bed in the corner can be moved too ;) The rug pictured below is an option for the bedroom from wayfair(customer review pic) I am struggling with the idea of patterns or bold colors in the curtains or area rug. If the rug has a pattern, would it clash with our duvet styles that we change frequently or if we had curtains with a color other than ivory? I have found some toile and soft floral patterns that are beautiful. Would it be safe to choose an ivory or linen type curtain so it is an easier match? Your suggestions are welcome!...See MoreDecorating my bedroom, would love some help
Comments (11)Instead of adding shelves, look for a narrow white table surface and chair to use for your makeup near your small dresser, which I would also paint white (try Ikea). Use a white roman shade on the window. Replace the light with a chandelier. Paint the walls a very light grey tinted white, and use a deep pink color with white on your bedding. I love pink, but I agree that pink walls may not work with the wood units. If you're willing to paint the shelving white, you can use a soft pink on the walls. Deep bedding like this if you keep the wood: Or paint the woodwork white: You might consider opening some of he shelving if you don't need it all for closed storage. A simple table surface like this with a chair, only in white....See Moreinterior design
