Need help with my drosera capensis please

Hello, I recently bought a drosera capensis and it seems to be adjusting poorly and has lost its dewy look. I've love some advice on how to revive it. It may have been a bit dry earlier so I've topped up on water for it (soil is now moist but not wet). I keep it in near an east facing window, an area with mostly indirect light (at most 1 hour of direct light). Is there anything else I do to help it along? Thanks in advance!

==>>> there are all the caveats.. that its stressed due to being moved from grower to your house.. etc .. perhaps shipping if mailed.. etc ... there is not much to do about such.. but just give it time to settle down and get its act together ... if this is the fact.. its stressed.. not hungry.. fert is not a response ...

if you have had it a while ... im wonder about humidity ... i always think of these types of plants a growing where yoda live.. damp.. soggy.. etc .. lol ..

so if your house is dry due to heating.. etc.. the plant might be suffering.. you gave no info in this regard.. so just pure speculation ...

Lack of dew means it needs more light. Increase light brightness. Also, it should be sitting in a tray of distilled water, rainwater or reverse osmosis water.

Blacken at leaves tips? It sounded like shipping stress. Most, if not all, of CP nursery grow their plant in green house so the plants are most likely NOT harden. If you want to harden your plant it will take a while. Here is what I do: 1) Put a humidity dome over the plant and leave it in the shade for like a week (A 1 liter Coke bottle with the bottle cut off will work) The 100% humidity will help the plant get back its dew 2) remove the cap after week but still keep the plant cover (it should be around 70% to 80% humidity) 3) remove the dome in a week or two and it should be harden **This is what I did where I live. Different area has different way to grow. What work for me may not work for you** There is a river behind my house so the humidity is usually 60% to 70% or more. I find that all Drosera need high humidity to produce dew. The hotter the temperature the higher the humidity and capensis is not exception. Good luck growing

Hi, You seem to be on the right track... Capes are like weeds / You "shouldn't" have any problems with them / They are pretty easy... Like "mcantrell" said, Don't cover the seeds with soil, just sprinkle them on top on the soil... I use Deli Cups... I poke a few holes (3 or 4) in the sides & a bunch in the bottom of the cup / Peat - Sand is the right mix... Don't pour water directly on the seeds / Use the tray method... Humidity is very important, but you don't want to keep them to wet or they will mold up on you... Also, like "mcantrell" said, they will take awhile to sprout, so give them time & don't give up... Since you have already potted them, I would recommend rubber banding some Saran Wrap or clear plastic over the pots... As long as the soil is moist you shouldn't have to water them / Just make sure you don't let the soil dry out... Place the pots where they will get some light, but not to the point where it will over heat them / As seeds/sprouts, they like it a bit on the cooler side... Good Luck...

Weird. Like I said, I changed nothing. Distilled water (same brand the whole time), didn't move it, didn't repot it, and the Drosera adelae right behind it got the same water and never had a problem. Do yours stay in that windowsill through the winter? No problems with cold drafts? I ask because your window looks similar to mine.

Crowding can occur eventually, however; I intend to let them grow a bit, then cut the root mass apart and separate them into several pots later. In any event, these plants grow in crowds in nature, so they know what they are doing. It simply is more convenient for us humans to have them separated out to cut back on mold and for aesthetic reasons. If they were plants that rely more on nitrogen in the soil, like vegetable plants, then I would want them separated more to reduce nitrogen impoverishment. Since that is not the case, they will be fine for a while this way.
