How to reinstate some character into stuccoed bungalow

Hi all!

We’ve just bought this 1920’s simplistic bungalow and I feel like a bit can be done to bring some character back to its exterior. Stucco has covered what I presume were originally weatherboards and the windows have been replaced with aluminium many years ago.

To top it off the whole front yard has been covered in asphalt which will be fun for out little boy but no good for a vege garden or any sort of character!

We would like to one day update and double glaze the windows, ideas welcome, and possibly install doors and a deck on the back western corner where the afternoon sun comes in (blank wall on second picture).

In the mean time I think the gables need updating, as they currently look too Tudor with the dark on white, a different colour for the batons? A fineal or corbels? Would like not to have to repaint the whole house but I feel maybe the white is draining it of what little character is left...

would love any and all ideas and opinions :)
