Hot Peppers garden

Trying to grow carolina reapers but something weird is going on.

Ok, for starters, I am a brand new grower, and I only know just a few tips from growers on youtube who's videos I watched for beginner growers, so I bought some supplies with what little budget I had to spend, and I bought various seeds on ebay.

Here's my concern. I bought what is suppose to be carolina reaper seeds from someone on ebay, and I just put them in my "Magic Dirt" soil to germinate them 5 days ago, and 2 days ago I discovered that the seeds sprouted very long roots/tails, so I went ahead and planted them into red cups, then placed sandwich baggies on the tops to preserve moisture. I did this less than 48 hours ago, and this morning when I woke up and checked on them, almost every single seed I sewed already sprouted 2-3 inch seedlings over the dirt.

From what I learned from other growers of super hot peppers, these seeds re not known to germinate and sprout for any less than 6 days and can take up to 3 weeks, yet these seeds have already sprouted 2-3 inches above the soil and the roots are already 3 inches+ long under the soil. Could this be happening because I used potting soil that has organic conpost in it instead of using regular seedling starter or peet moss like what people traditionally use?

I made a video on youtube this morning showing just a few of these seedlings that sprouted super quick. Can ya'll take a look at this video and tell me if carolina reapers should have sprouted this quickly, or if I possibly got riped off on ebay. I don't see 2 inches of growth anywhere??? I see normal seeds sprouting....it is impossible to tell you what variety you have..the only way to tell is to wait till they produce fruit. The camera was jumping around so much that I can't really even tell if they're peppers.

In the future, read the seller's feedback and that will give you a good idea if you should buy from that seller.

I don't see anything that tall either. I don't think you should transplant any plant before it has a set of true leaves ( 2nd set of leaves). The plant that lost it's leaves probably won't live. Once they sprout, they need bright indirect light, not direct sunlight.

Check here for tips for growing hot peppers. Found this site when I was trying to help my Grandson with his pepper plants. I'm sure there are many others.

Ah darn! No, this was a learning exercise. I'm in Scotland so the plant was growing in doors and I never even thought to pollinate the flowers until the lady minute so this is the only fruit I managed to get! Now it's stuck half green half orange! Pretty disappointed that it's an unrecognisable pepper!! Oh well thanks for the help though.

Yes. Trinidad. Like Bruce said, just another one of the many Caribbean superhots that are offshoots of the original 7pot. Which was given the name by the locals because it was said that ONE pepper could season 7 pots of stew. On the other end of the spectrum you have the Bhuts and Nagas which originated out of India and Bangladesh. Of course, there's also the widespread belief that ALL chiles originated here in the Americas(western hemisphere) and made their way to all the other continents. TMI?? :P Kevin

I haven't grown reapers, but plenty of other hots (and sweets) habanero, jalapeno, cayenne, thai, scotch bonnet. I don't start peppers this early. I start two sets - one four weeks before the expected last frost, the other two weeks. Seeds soaked overnight then put in potting soil in trays (or starter cups). The four week is really for the option of an early spring to put them out early. The two weeks, I keep inside until I'm sure that a late freeze comes through. If you start them now for the spring, you will need a real grow light setup, because they will be full grown bushes by spring.

Wel I didnt have any more peet pellets or regular seedling starter soil to germinate these in, so I had no good way to germinate these seeds in my germination container because the only soil I have(magic dirt) didnt do so well in the tray I have, its full of wood pieces of wood chips and other large material, so I had to just germinate the seeds in a pile of this soil and placed them into larger cups as soon as the seeds sprouted tails.

BTW the sprouts that I claimed are 2 inchestall are indeed that tll, I guess the video didnt do them justice, but there are about 4 of these that measured exactly 2 inches. I have them out in the sun untill I buy a proper 24 watt grow light system this friday, and so far these seedlings I featured in the video are standing straight and tall and gained a nice darker green color already so I think they are ok so far. I'll keep everyone updated on thier progress as I see changes this next week, but so far every one of these, plus about 9 more that sprouted after this video are all healthy looking being under direct sunlight.
