What type of style, size, etc runner rug for this laundry room/mudroom?

Have you considered additional updates? Consider painting the interior door the same dark grey (or black) as the cabinet next to dryer. Add some jute baskets and a jute runner would pull it all together. Whatever rug you decide on, try to incorporate the style or color elsewhere.

I would use a ruggable rug. They are machine washable and look fantastic. Because of your busy pattern on the floor, which appears to have a lot of browns, I would choose the above rug.

THE RULE Is don't make a second post!! Go to a real carpet store, ask to see stair runners that come in 36 inch widths.Have it made to the length you need and backed with non skid. Or look at area rugs in 3 x 5 for the entry if that fits.. No doormat sizes. Ready made runners will be too narrow for your space No to the rug under table. You need an 8 x10 and I doubt that fits. Nothing is far better, than a too small rug.

I think you need to do more with the top of the table versus getting one area rug. Don't keep the same runner; change it with the seasons to bring color and texture which you can't do with an area rug. Area rugs fix you to a space but when you don't have one it feels more flexible and open. I love the color of your floor and I think that's the star that can showcase an ever changing table top decor. Have fun with it because you're bringing in black chairs, taking out the only color you have which is the artwork. You need color do it with the table.

I don’t think I would add a runner and cover up the beautiful tile. Is it really necessary?

It's needed since it is a main thoroughfare from our garage into the house. Lots of kids coming in and out with dirty feet.

I would use a synthetic jute. They're indestructible. You can take them outside and hose them off if need be. This site lets you customize the exact size you need and choose a border color. https://www.sisalrugs.com/all-weather.html
