Comments (20)Zeit, my vote's strongly with vertical for the height reasons. If you put horizontal anywhere maybe somewhere like the front of the island, or disappearing up the stairwell, nowhere where it might reinforce a squat effect? There's actually a what-do-I-do-with-this-diagonal-paneling thread up right now. Half the people coming here don't even have a memory from childhood about how exciting that was in its time. I remember! Wonderfully edgy and artistic. The problem with so many "updating" projects was that it was rather awful in most standard rooms, which became terribly obvious to everyone as its Zeitgeist died and the "Reagan era" took over. Comments (5)Often the best way to approach a dual garden fencing issue is with what is commonly called a "good neighbor" fence - that is, a fence with boards alternating on both faces so that the appearance is the same on both sides of the fence. Obviously the alternating boards make them not seamless but they still retain a very high degree of privacy. And they can be both vertically or horizontally oriented. Is the cost of the new fence to be shared? Vertical good neighbor fence: Horizontal good neighbor fence:...See MoreShould I lay my ceramic wood tiles vertically or horizontally?
