Need fixture help for vaulted ceiling over kitchen table
Comments (1)Our kitchen has vaulted ceiling also, but not that high over the table, so we have a hanging fixture. We have a recessed light that illuminates the other side of the kitchen, where the ceiling is pretty high. It provides ambient light to that side of the room, but if our table were under it, I don't think it would throw off the right kind of light. If I were you, I would reconsider putting a hanging fixture over the table. If you're concerned that a 14-foot chain might not look right, go to a good light fixture store and browse through some catalogues. You'll get good ideas on how to deal with your issue....See Morelight fixture over kitchen table off-center
Comments (3)If the fixture does not weigh over 25 pounds, you could purchase a 2' piece of track and an end feed along with a pendant adaptor. The track would run from the box to where you need the fixture to hang (the track can be cut) and you would wire the fixture to the adaptor. This has been done many times. If you don't like the idea of the hook, but it is the easiest, you can get a cord cover which is sold in lighting showrooms that matches the colors in the fixture and just put that over the chain and hook, then extend it over to where the box is. Hope this helps....See Morelight fixture over kitchen table
Comments (4)Wow--you all are fast! The style is pretty contemporary, but having said that, I don't want anything that looks super modern or "techie" (if that makes sense). And I'm looking for something with 2 or 3 lights, not a single round fixture. Thanks for all of the ideas teacats--the 3 light one is almost what I want......See MoreDeciding what light fixture to purchase over breakfast table?
Comments (20)princemurtuza- Well, well, well. There are some rather apt sayings I will quote- "One man's meat is another man's poison." "There is no accounting for taste." I am not fond of fixtures with transparent glass because the glare from the bulbs gives me a headache, and with the amount of time one spends in the kitchen, that is absolutely a no-go, for me at least. I prefer glass that is not transparent. princemurtuza- There are a lot of fixtures that are just gorgeous and not quotidian, you just have to be willing to hunt them down, and pay $$$ for them. The best thing for you to do is to go online and look at the really high end lighting companies and try to narrow down what style that you like. Just create virtual "idea boards" for yourself, don't even look at the prices. After you've looked at several luxurious brands products and made virtual collages for yourself, you should notice some sort of commonality in your choices. Then you can narrow down to the specific shape, style and material that you like. Once you've done that, then if you would like some advice from the folks here on Houzz, then upload the photos of the things you are thinking about, so we have several items to choose from. At that point, you know what you are looking for, and then you can find something that most closely resembles that in quality and style at a place you can afford. And by the way, when you are on Houzz and ask for advice /opinions, advice and opinions are what you'll get. And you may not like or agree with them or find them helpful. If you want someone to pat you on the head and tell you exactly what you want to hear, you are in the wrong place. If you paid a decorator money and she/he told you only what you wanted to hear, you'd be throwing your money away....See MoreRelated Professionals
