My New Granite..issues. Kevin? Granite Girl? Pix
Comments (19)Thanks for the suggestions everyone and the kind comments especially about my rescue pooches. They are the sweetest! I am so sorry about the big pictures but have not as yet conquered the downsizing of pix on photobucket. I was successful once at downsizing and thought I had it but then they came across like this!!! Really sorry. I know it's a pita. The 5th photo down is of the seam they did. I thought they did a really good job with the seam. There are two other tiny seams in front and back of the cooktop virtually invisible. The only big seam is the one in the 5th photo that is to the left of the sink. I should have written on each photo what they were of. Some people have asked lately if it's ok to do a chrome faucet with different color hardware. I did and never even think about it. My backsplash was already in. It was installed a few years ago. Doesn't look too exciting in the pictures but it was expensive tile from Home Expo when there were still around and I just couldn't take it down. They are handmade and had a lot of pieces to accent with. It looks better in person, lol. It's not easy to change a backsplash. The last time we did they had to cut out the drywall and reinstall new, tape and mud, sand and then put in a new splash, big mess. I think it will be awhile before I can get DH to do that again. Also, blew the budget on the granite! I was told the rough on the surface could have been from the cutting of the granite at the fabricators. They run water over the stone as it's being cut and there is lots of dust from the stone. It mixes together and makes a gritty film on the stone. If they don't clean it off it can feel very gritty and that is what it felt like. Really awful, I'm not a wimp when it comes to cleaning and I am being honest when I say it was REALLY rough. It is so much better now since I did the steel wool polish on it and have been using a granite polish on it every few days. So if anyone has this happen it takes some effort but it can be made better! Thanks so much again for the helpful comments!...See Morenew girl on the block needs some advice!
Comments (4)Welcome! You've just signed up for a very stressful, exciting, and often fun ride! Have you had a chance to read the "Read Me" thread? In the thread there's a link to the "Sweeby Test" that might help you clarify your vision. Forget cabinet/granite color, etc, for a few minutes and take the Test... Then, take a look at the Finished Kitchens blog that ChicagAns linked to and start looking at kitchens. I suspect you may want a "Transitional" style kitchen...a style that's b/w a traditional or vintage look and modern look. The FKB Categories list (the link is in the navigation panel on the right of the FKB pages) has a "Kitchen style" category that might help as well. Check out the styles and see what style you're drawn to. Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Read Me If You're New To GW Kitchens!...See MoreNeed some hood help--quick!
Comments (12)In reading range hood specs I'm almost certain that I've seen some vent pieces to convert between a rectangular and a round vent pipe, if that's the concern. My worry is everytime you do that sort of maneuver, you open a weak area in that join--weak to leakage, misalighment with time, whatever. If you let them deviate too much with adding bends in that vent you lose range hood power, too, if you're thinking of trying to squeak out space that way inside the cabinet. Will those above-range cabinets be within your reach? Even with pots cooking away on the range? If so, then I would go for the cabinet there. It's pretty wide and will leave enough space, less the vent, to stash the limited things you want there. I'm doing the open hood myself, like your second design, but for your functional purposes I'd go for the cabinet. The design is equally attractive to me, if not more so....See More*Some pictures- storms and one of the girls*
Comments (19)I'm so glad you liked my pictures! :) Evelyn was doing her darndest to catch up, mostly because she wants to climb into Claire's basket. Where are you in Alberta Jellybean? I thought that was canola. Jason tried to convince me it was something else so now I can brag that I was right. :) I am closer to you again Marie! We'll have to get together some time. I need to get passports for all of us first though. Nodakgal, I was just thinking to myself this morning that I will miss being able to have our window open in the morning and not be woken up by any noise. It was just rain and birdsong this morning. I will miss that a LOT. Socks, Evelyn is very blonde and her hair is also taking forever to grow, lol. It's coming though...slowly. Okwriter the cons are mice. And the mice. Did I mention the mice? LOL And the oil for heating is EXPENSIVE. And dial-up. Also I think that there is a rat living in the garage and Jason refuses to believe me. He insists it's a weasel. But what weasel would eat a package of candy? *shiver* We caught the edge of that last storm. It was pretty intense. The pink sheets at the bottom of the clouds are rain. I could actually hear it as I was taking the picture and it was probably a kilometre away. Thanks for taking the time to look and comment! I can't wait to move into town so I can enjoy everyone's pictures again. It just takes so darn long to download them that I often don't brave it. :( And I love looking at people's pictures! Danielle...See Moresharon2079
