Troy Bilt mower on 4th battery
Comments (6)If we pretended you never used a meter, we wouldn't know you had one, thus the ability to check for current flow. Modern meters are almost "too good" for some applications. You can probably get voltage reads just by touching the leads to the battery surface between the terminals, especially if it's an older battery with a dirty, oily film on it. The ammeter function is used in series instead of parallel like the voltage functions. You'll probably have a different "jack" to plug in the RED lead and a different range on the dial. Instead of V, it should be A. Used the HIGHEST range to start. That's probably either 2A or 10A, depending on the meter. You might want to use a pair of alligator clip leads like the cheap ones from Radio Shack etc. Likely, your draw is from the voltage regulator/charge diode at the engine. You didn't mention ANY model numbers for the machine or engine. If we knew that, we MIGHT be able to find an actual schematic to better look for potential trouble spots. Some schematics are readily available and some aren't....See Moretroy bilt horse tiller
Comments (3)It does it when the tines are in the ground and the belt is burning on the pulley trying to make it turn, then the engage lever will pop up, then when I reengage the tines they willl work fine for a while then it does it again. It seems to work fine when the tines are above ground....See MoreTroy-bilt tiller 'garden way' transmission question
Comments (44)We inherited a Troy-Bilt tiller with Gardenway TH 1018 on the tiller and a B&S engine # 171437, prob 1992 built. Engine runs great, tines move forward & back, but not fast enough to do more than make a scratch on the ground. Looks like a place for 2 belts, but only one there. Need 2nd belt? Also, don't see any levers for the tine and wheel speeds to be run separately. Only tillers I'm familiar with are the front tine models where you have to pull back really hard to make it dig in. Shouldn't the tires and weight of the machine do that work for me? Any help would be appreciated. Have a friend that "dabbles" in mechanics, but we need a manual or something. -- THANKS!...See MoreTroy-Bilt Chipper/shredder Belt
Comments (3)I have a Trot Bilt Super Tomahawk chipper/shredder. The question is what should the chipper knife clearance be. If someone could measure it and reply, I would be very grateful. The holes in the main shaft set the flail/chipper location and the old shaft was very bad. This machine came to me with a bent main shaft and bad main shaft bearing. I had to cut the ends off the main shaft to get the flail assembly out of the machine. I have made a new shaft and it all looks good and should work well. I am running 1 in shaft bearings on the new shaft and that should improve the life. If anyone needs a shaft or other machine work done to extend the life of their machine pleas send an E Mail. I also have manuals and numerous sources for parts. I make flails out of old truck springs and harden them....See MoreRick White
