Neutral Backsplash dilemma
Comments (48)Hydragea, oh yes I did need this forum! The comments I got back in February helped solidify my choices and gave me confidence. It is very hard for me to visualize a finished look - so posting the pictures and getting feedback was so helpful. My other major influence on what NOT to choose for backsplash tile was Canadian interior decorator and blogger Maria Killam. She has lots of posts about choosing granite patterns and appropriate backsplash tile. She seemed to be a lone voice out there saying plain is better. She advises against trendy mosaic accent tiles that may be out of style in 5 years as well as tile that 'fights' with your granite pattern (formica pattern in my case). I felt the same way, but reading her rationale was the gamechanger. You can access her many, many topics at mariakillam.com....See MoreAnyone with a 2 inch backsplash or no backsplash?
Comments (21)Hi. We installed out kitchen in 2012. We still haven't chosen or decided on a backslpash - it's the painted wall. I have a creamy Egyptian marble, - don't remember the name. I like unstructured European vintage-y kitchens. Many of them don't have backsplashes either. My stainless range has a stainless backsplash directly behind it. I had picked out some mini-clear glass subway tile for the backsplash that coincidentally matches my Prescott Green paint color perfectly but what if I decide to change wall color one day? Just this week I started thinking maybe I made my backsplash tile decision three years ago which was to have none. Our marble installers tried very hard to discourage us from marble in the kitchen but I have not regretted it. All those kitchens in southern Europe can't be wrong. FYI - If you are considering glass backsplash look at a product call 3-Form it comes in an amazing variety of colors, textures and imbedded items, two good friends used it in their kitchens. http://www.3-form.com/ Do what speaks to you in your home. Comments (7)Ok, we're talking about you finding a solution for 2 years. You already have the tile, you like it on the wall with your fireplace, and the same color paint is next to it there. Your main goal is function and sellability. I think that tile will do the job for you, even if there are other ideas that might be good options. This is the one you've already paid for, and that's a big consideration in a two year forecast. I would say use the tile and enjoy the ease of wiping down your backsplash. It sounds like in your house, a tile backsplash will be an upgrade in selling, and it obviously matches everything. I agree that the amount of space you have between your counter and upper cabinets should determine if a running bond works in the situation or not. I prefer the running bond, but if there's not room for it, do the diagonal. It will visually raise the height between the two cabinets. Don't worry! The tile will be functional and sellable. Like you said, when you live in a more permanent home, you can make a more permanent choice rather than one based on resale....See MoreAnother "how to end backsplash run"?
Comments (15)So here are some better pictures. I don't think it makes sense to tile over the door, because the piece next to the uppers is so slim that you can't really carry the tile up there. Also I am not tiling over the sink window for similar reasons- the window casing runs right along the uppers on either side so to put tile above would be kind of random. I am still torn on what to do. The end panels are in. I have some pencil edge tiles and some glazed edge tiles. I'm not sure how I should end things. I am planning to do an oceany blue-green color still to be decided on the walls....See MoreBlueberryBundtcake - 6a/5b MA
