painting vintage furniture....
Comments (18)Awwwwwww...thanks peachy, I need all the positives I can get since I sort of went out on a limb to do something unique and different. I call *my* style Romantic French. I saw a cabinet in a very expensive antique store in similar colors, so that was my inspiration. I also thought since shabby chic/cottage is so popular here in Austin, my pieces could be worked in easily. I find i'm very focused on purchasing only what I feel will give that 'Romantic French' feeling to a room, so i'm very particular about my purchases. Other than painting furniture, I paint metal items to look more distressed. I really enjoy what I do, and hope it shows! 'Eye candy' is quite a compliment! Thanks again. ;o)...See MoreSofa and fabric selections- vintage looking?
Comments (21)I too have heard wonderful things about Flexsteel quality, but- I am not sure if it is still the way it was. Melly says hers is older, which reinforces my questioning on this. Not trying to be too much of a skeptic but I was in the market for family room furniture and su:rfed the web tirelessly- and found all sorts of conflicting opinions.......... I have had Broyhill which I know is a very moderate line, and I also know that might not be an option now as they have had a good deal of financial woes but the furniture was great. (also very old so not sure of what is made now) I had Thomasville which I believe is supposed to be a better quality than Broyhill and is more $. It was ok but it was not any better than the others. I ended up buying Rowe, which I believe is probably comparable to Broyhill- anyway it's only a few months old but it seems great and it is made in USA. I didn't spend a lot, as that was what the moral of the story seemed to be- there was no longer a correlation between quality and price. This may still be valid for much higher end lines but for what I was considering.... that's my 2 cents. I still do love your wallpaper though:)...See MoreVintage Hollywood Regency bedroom furniture
Comments (7)Well I bought the furniture today and will be picking up from the store on Wednesday. I am thinking of lacquering them white. I am not a huge fan of blond wood, but this is mahogany and if it looks good in the room I may consider keeping it blond. It is in very good shape. If I do decide to go white, any advice? Do I really need a sprayer to do it properly? Can I do it properly myself? Where do I bring it if I need to have it profesionally done and how much should I expect to pay?...See MoreVintage Thomasville furniture China hutch?
Comments (1)You need to post a picture of the piece but based on your description it isn't worth very much. Both the style and the function of the piece aren't in demand at the moment. This would obviously be somewhat a factor of your local market but since you would need to find a local buyer the market would be limited. You might find a used furniture store who would purchase it for wholesale but many of them don't purchase this kind of "used furniture" because there is such a limited market. When I remodeled I got rid of a lot of theoretically high quality "brown furniture" and gave it away to my neighbor's brother who just needed furniture in his home and wasn't particular about the style....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
