I painted my fridge in my last house. It was almond color and I painted it white. It absolutely turned out fantastic - however, I was going from almond to white, not green to white, so the leap wasn't as far in shades. I used appliance paint from Lowe's or Menard's, I can't remember. It cost about $15.00 for 2 cans of the stuff and I barely had enough, in fact, I didn't do much of the top of the fridge knowing it wouldn't be seen. It really ended up looking up new again. However, we wore masks and taped off our cabinets and floors, and doorways to other rooms. Even so, the paint floated in the air, I found specs on my piano, which was in the room next to the kitchen. And the paint was everywhere on us, inside our noses and everything, even though we wore masks. We did it in winter time, so we couldn't go outside with the fridge. Another thought is this. Have you looked at yard sales for a fridge? When we moved, we wanted another one to put in the garage for extra beverages and a place to store more freezer items. We looked for a couple months and found on at a yard sale that was only 4 or 5 years, and it cost us $200. It is in fantastic shape. Look around and check the ads. You might really be surprised, and I would rather do that than go to the trouble of painting one. If you hear of one, just make sure you are early for the sale. The good ones go fast. My husband got to the sale a half hour early and while asking the guy a couple of questions about it, the guy was getting other offers. Good luck.

I had a harvest gold frig and painted it white. Everyone that came in thought I had bought a new frig. Cleaned it really well with greased lightning, rinsed well and let dry. Then applied kilz primer. I used white appliance paint from home depot and applied with a small foam roller. Did not lay it off, as I really liked that little bit of texture, made it look like it had been sprayed. In small areas used different sized foam brushes and kinda mimicked the same texture. That frig lasted another five or six years, longer than the new ones are designed to last in todays market, and I was really proud of how good it looked. Good luck, maid

You could also check with an auto body shop. I'm going to have the white grills that came on our stainless Electrolux fridges and freezer done by a local shop, and figured if the time came that I decided I hated the stainless, I'd check on having the whole things done. I do think you can order new gaskets...We checked into that when our white ones discolored several years ago. We didn't replace them. I think it was because they weren't as inexpensive as we'd hoped, but I'm not certain.

Blast, I'd typed a message, hit the wrong key and it went away! Argh!! Try, try again. I'm good with spatial and function aspects of kitchens but I stumble when it comes to design advice so I'm hoping that others chime in, too. I love the stained lowers/white painted uppers look so that gets my vote but you can't go wrong with your other choice. And actually, now that I look at Plan E, the only uppers you'd have that could be painted white and could also have glass are the ones on the top wall - the 60" section. All other cabinetry on the perimeter is tall storage (pantry) or oven column. I'm afraid that having only one small section of white painted uppers will look unbalanced, like you ran out of cherry cabs and made do with something else. So you may be better off going with cherry perimeter and white island. You can lighten the look of all that cherry on the perimeter with glass fronted uppers in that 60" section. However, think about what you'll store in them so that form doesn't trump function. If you look at Giada's TV kitchen, the frost glass does obscure items but color still shows through. When you say tall cabinetry, are you referring to the pantry? Or do you mean uppers that sit on the counter? If the latter, they are usually shallower than the base and have a drawer at the bottom. That way you can have items on the counter in front and still open the cab doors. You could do one of these in part of that 60" section but I think I prefer only uppers here. It's a balance thing again. One upper with glass, one upper to the counter with glass, each the only one of its kind in the kitchen. If you had more uppers, then I'd say, go with a to-the-counter unit. If you look at Giada's TV kitchen again, you might see what I mean about balance. Have you discovered houzz.com yet? You could easily do something similar - white uppers with frosted glass, white talls, cherry lowers and island. That would give you balance.
