Leaking dishwasher and can't get rid of suds
Comments (11)Doesn't matter which cycle. Rinse/Hold is fine ... just add a tablespoon or two directly to the tub, let the machine swish it around and drain. Fabric softener kills suds in washing machines so it'd surely do the same in a dishwasher ... very little should be needed, less than a tablespoon. Dishwasher detergent ideally should not generate any suds. Suds interfere with rotation of the spray arm, dragging it down from proper speed ... and can also cause a vapor lock on the pump, starving it for water, reducing spray pressure and resulting in bad washing/rinsing performance. Rinse aid is a sort of detergent or soap and can cause sudsing in the final rinse if the dosage is too high for the water conditions (hardness). Dispensers inject just milliliters of rinse aid. Adjustable rinse aid dispensers typically release from 1 ML at the lowest setting to maybe 5 ML at the highest. 1 teaspoon is 4.9 ML. No "regular" liquid hand-dishwashing detergent in the household? Seems a little odd, LOL. Sudsing can be caused by residue left on dishware that has been sloshed in soapy water in the sink and then loaded into the machine....See MoreFloor Damage - DW Under Warranty
Comments (13)I would at least talk to your agent about it. Homeowner's insurance is a funny thing. It may be that individual state laws come into play with how they can raise their rates. We have had several claims too and they have never raised the rates. We had a hail storm and had them check the roof. There was no hail damage but they replaced the whole roof due to a manufacturer's defect in the roofing material. Two years later we had another hail storm and it broke windows and damaged the roof. We were starting renovations on our house and tore the porch and some of the damaged windows out, where we were adding on. When the adjuster came they wanted to know the dimensions of the porch and windows and added it on to what they payed. I would at least see what your particular situation would be....See MoreFloor Damage - DW Under Warranty
Comments (8)Thanks everyone for your responses. So far I am working with a claim rep with the manufacturer about repairing the floor. When my contractor called the rep (we've lived in the house for less than a year) to tell him the flooring was discontinued, the rep balked and claimed he didn't have to repair the whole floor. I did contact my insurance co and explained the whole situation and she suggested going as far with the manufacturer as I can to get the issue resolved. If it cannot be resolved, then I can submit a claim to the insurance co and they will do essentially what happened with cleo_2007. ideagirl2 - I do live in a blue state :-) and I did call my attorney general's office. They told me to submit a complaint with them, and I did. I haven't heard anything though....See MoreDemo started-urgent flooring question
Comments (4)Livewire, thanks for your reply. We understand that lauan is not a subfloor - we understand it to be low-quality imported plywood originally intended for use as paneling. However, it is used as an underlayment on top of the subfloor by every flooring person we have talked to so far. Since the manufacturer does not recommend lauan as an underlayment for Duraceramic, we have ruled out all the flooring places we have contacted so far. I guess it's possible that the sales people asssigned to talk to us are using "lauan" as a generic term for underlayment, but so far they have not talked about anything else, such as arctic birch, Halex, or Ulay, as recommended by Congoleum. We will definitely replace at least part of the subfloor and will cover it with an approved underlayment. We appreciate the advice to look at the joists when the subfloor is removed, to install leveling plywood under the cabinets, and to prep the underlayment - this is the type of information we are looking for. I would LOVE to find a "qualified flooring professional"! However, EVERY person from a flooring store that I have talked to knows less about DuraCeramic than what I learned from a few hours on the web. I under-qualified our "handyman" - he is a licensed design/build contractor who has done major additions, etc. However, he has only done small jobs for us and he is not affiliated with a flooring store. At this point, however, we would trust his advice more than any of the so-called "professional" flooring people we have contacted. So far, we have gone through about three quarters of the authorized DuraCeramic dealers listed on the Congoleum website for our area. It's very frustrating!...See Morejkent9024
