Redo of fireplace.

We are going to redo our fireplace with new tiling around it. Wondering about the area around it and what changes we could make. Not opposed to any Ideas! first, the picture over mantle..right size? I know I need some things on either side but am trying to show the scale. Also is the wall clock too small? I really like it but not sure about size? It’s a smallish room in a condo. No tv in this room. Any suggestions welcomed!

We also need 1 picture the entire room. Art over mantel should be about the size of the fire box. It's hard to tell because your picture is so close. Take one from further back

Because the fireplace ends at a narrow wall, it would be awkward to put a face stone or brick on the front. You might consider just a smooth plaster finish with a new mantle mounted higher on the wall. You can paint the entire wall and even around the corner in an accent color. I don't have any photos that match your situation, but I have posted a few to at least give you inspiration.

Redoing brick fireplace

The drywall part is easy. Deconstructing the brick without having a damaged mess left is the hard part, and not something I would recommend for a newbie. You may be able to get the top two rows of bricks off without much inadvertent damage, but those triangular projections can't be removed unless you take off all the fireplace brick, all the way across, down to the bottom of the triangles. If you don't understand why, that's even more reason for you to not attempt this yourself. If you're really serious about this, have a brick mason look at it and explain what's possible.

The art over the mantel is a good size. I wouldn't add too much on the mantel itself--maybe two staggered-size candlesticks on one side of the art and one other item you like on the other side. I don't usually like big clocks on a wall, but that one is very pretty and the size is good. Other than adding an area rug to warm up the space, I think it's a nice room!

Thanks very much for that feedback. Much appreciated. The fireplace? its 30 years old and doesn’t work...would you retire? Anything else? We had a cream area rug in there many years ago. I like the ease of cleaning without it but have thought many times how much it would warm up the room. Probably a pretty neutral one.?
