What is going on with my Emerald Green Arborvitae?

last modified: 4 years ago

I'm in North New Jersey (zone 6a). I planted this row of Emerald Green Arborvitaes last spring. I watered them well during the first season and they seemed happy. They get full sun. The soil is clay. I dug the planting holes wide. They did fine over the winter. Early this spring I fertilized with Espoma Plant Tone. We've had quite a bit of rain, so I haven't watered very much yet this year. These arborvitaes are bermed up a bit. Any ideas why there are yellow (dead?) spots here and there? Should I prune these spots off?
