Need help updating Rancher exterior

Hi there, 1st time here!

Just bought this rancher. Since photo there is a new black roof. We are swapping out both bay windows with large "flat" windows. Will get extensive landscaping once front is done.

1)the concrete under the brick is driving me crazy. Raised paver flower bed around?

2)Paint or white wash the brick?

3)Hubs is not a fan of the blue. It is wood siding that has been painted.

4)thinking black front door and shutters.

So appreciate any and all recommendations on treatments and colors. Thanks so much!

2. Rather than paint, if you don’t like the colour of your brick, I would consider Romabio masonry limewash. It’s a far softer, more sophisticated finish than paint & when it cures, it’s permanent and mould resistant. Search for photos of finished exterior examples. They have different colours to choose from. Their Avorio, is very close to Benjamin Moore’s White Dove, for example.

1. once you have chosen a colour for the finish of your brick. You might echo a relating colour in a new render finish of the concrete below it.

3&4. If you are open to approaching this external dilemma differently, a certified Color Strategist will send you a device which measures the colours within your brick and roofing and from that they can ascertain to which Hue Families they belong & other vital colour details. They use that data to help coordinate all your colour decisions so they relate closely.

My spouse has been in insurance for over 13 years and knows the laws and regulations and is licensed in 45 states. But the exterior was up to code other than a panel along the bottom on the side of the driveway and it was that way when we moved in and so we did not change it. in 2017 the 10 month notice was to difficult to have all the work done as we lost my spouses income completely and the medical treatment bill was $500,000.00 and that was top priority to save my spouse's life. So yes the home got put second. Our state told we do not qualify for any assistance as they would take my spouse's prior income into account. I was able to find a family member that is willing to help with the siding, but said we will have to buy the materials and his crew can handle the installation for labor the cost is $5500.00 I am hoping that is not too steep. We will now just have to figure what supplies for the exterior we will want to upgrade the home as if we are going to put money in, we want to make it worth it.

The house has lovely bones. Definitely no shutters. I would suggest replacing the light fixtures. The security light over the garage is not adding any curb appeal and the light by the front door is blending in too much. You might consider a new front door if it's not adding much charm. I can't really see it from your picture so it's difficult to tell.

While it will shrink your side yard, you might consider planting a couple of rows of cedar trees or other evergreen trees or shrubs )that keep their leaves year round) to create a "green fence" between the railroad track and your home. Not sure it would help with the sound but it certainly wouldn't hurt. After you plant the first row, plant the second row with those trees/shrubs blocking the view of any space between that first row.

I would get rid of the shutters which are too small for that type of window. Perhaps pick a brighter color for the front door since it is practically invisible in the photo (unless that is just the photo and in real life it is easy to see). I also am not a fan of the stark white, but that is just an opinion. As far as landscaping, I would add a couple of small flowering trees, some planting in front of the house, but not right up against it-build a wide bed in front and plant a mix of shrubs and perennials. Landscaping will make all the difference in the world. For useful suggestions though, we need to know where you are located (as Ken says, nearest big city). I also agree that it would look better with wide steps facing front-then you could curve the walkway out with graden on both sides. I love ranches. Have one myself with a heavily planted yard.

The blue is all wrong I paint brick only as last resort , I do not think lime wash suits a MCM ranch at all.Shutters do not belong on this house no multi windows get shutters. Thai color is perfect with brick and you could even do the trim to match like it is in the picture . You need a new MCM front door a very different style of landscaping too
