Appliance lift, yay or nay?
Comments (26)I am repurposing a lower 36" cabinet that I had a shelf taken out of, and a vertical divider wall placed into it thereby making it a set of singular cabinets inside. It still has two smaller drawers at the top. I didn't have the divider wall go all the way to the drawers (obviously) as the outlet I want to use is on the opposite side of the divider wall of the side I want to put the mixer lift on (of course). I plan on laying the cord over the divider wall into the other cabinet compartment to plug it in. My concern here is the two drawers on top. I own a 28 lb KA mixer (empty), although it's 17 years old it's massive, the 6qt pro series. and the head does not tilt back (which I hate but that's a story for another day). I think I'm going with the RAS soft close heavy duty but I am concerned about what type of shelf to have made. I think a butcher block is what I'm going to have to do. I grew up with a mixer lift and my Mom always had granite/quartz blocks to match but I think here it'll be too heavy. Anyone have success with butcher blocks? Under the drawer mounting with a monster KA mixer they don't move? TIA....See MoreCaeserstone, Yay or Nay?
Comments (10)I've had my white Caesarstone for about a year and I have had no issues. In fact, I love it. It's on our perimeter counters as well as our kitchen table surface. I just use soap and water and an occasional spray of watered down rubbing alcohol. The occasional stains such as blue pen (don't ask!) and smushed berries, come right out with soft scrub w/bleach. My DH and DS are the dishwashers and they occasionally bonk a plate on the counter as they are loading the dishwasher and though it makes me cringe, we have had no chips or damage as a result. I don't put pots from the stove or oven directly on it so I haven't tested its heat resistance. BTW, I also ran into that 3rings website with the horrible reviews of CS as I was doing my research. I thought it was a bit odd that ALL the reviews were so horrible and it made me a bit suspicious. Other websites--like this one-- seemed more trustworthy in that many people post with their varying experiences and it's easier to sort what might be spam or fake reviews....See MoreMixing brass & copper in the kitchen - yay or nay?
Comments (26)My advice is to go for it, Kathy! We didn't get the brass faucet (my husband didn't like the bridge style and besides, they were way too pricey for us....) We went with "champagne bronze" which works, but honestly, I don't love it. My hope was that it would echo the brushed gold cabinet pulls. It sort of does, but a brighter color would have been better. We haven't installed the pot filler yet (still waiting on that GE Cafe range; ugh), but my husband chose copper and now I'm worried since it doesn't match the faucet. We could have gone with copper on the faucet (the fake kind) since it stays shiny and the sink has the patina, and so would match the hardware on the appliances. I may end up changing out that sink faucet. (It may be too many metals; although we don't have stainless in there, so that helps.) Either way, they all look good with the Cambria Britannica gold, and the SW pure white cabinets as well as the green cabinets. I still haven't chosen a backsplash, believe it or not.... (please ignore the cereal and junk; just visited IKEA and the grocery store!)...See MoreIKEA Green Bobdyn - yay or nay?
Comments (18)Shead--I love green and I am also eyeing this green version of the Bodbyn fronts. I first saw it on the UK website. I then thought it was available in Canada, but now I do not see it on their website. I was actually considering the 5+ hour drive to my nearest Canadian Ikea to see it in person (I think I have too much time on my hands :)) I already have a kitchen-full of off-white Grimslov cabinets in my house waiting to be installed. 1906 home. We have fir floors and will have maple butcherblock countertops throughout or just on the perimeter, with soapstone on the island. I was looking at this green for the island and/or the row of shallow pantry cabinets that will be by themselves along one wall. At this point, I am sure we will just proceed as planned, but I won't rule out changing out some fronts down the road. Anyone who sees this in person or, even better, uses it, please post pictures! The way it looks on my monitor on the UK website would look great with wood tones, brass, marble. I am not sure how it would play with true white, but then I am not good with color. Oh, and Beckysharp, thanks for the paint colors! I may need to get my green fix via paint and/or backsplash....See MoreLisa R
