What colors do you prefer?
Comments (13)There's a quiet space on the side of my home. Pavers create the walkway and I have placed a bistro table and two chairs next to the house. Because it is a quiet place, my garden colors are soft and calming. White iceberg roses and climbers, agapanthus, blue iris, blue plumbago, and thyme which will have a soft lavender flower create the color scheme. Around the corner is a different story. It is where the grilling area, covered patio, and swimming pool are. This area is often lively and much of it is subjected to many hours of Las Vegas heat and direct sunlight. Subdued colors cannot withstand the sun. Also, I want this part of the garden to look alive, lively, not be subdued and calming. As a result, this is where the multi-colored Joseph's Coat lives, Don Juan, America, Mardi Gras, golden celebration, knock out roses, ( so deep red, multi-colored roses that read ivory with rose pink, soft gold, and apricot tones here in the heat, and salmon pink) , and a medium/deep pink floribunda which unfortunately I do not know what the variety is. These are the lively colors. I shy away from bright orange colors in my garden because with the colors already present, it could be too much for my senses... I prefer apricot or salmon, and use golden yellow sparingly. When I look at color, yellow can be the shockingly brightest color there is....See MoreWhy do some of you prefer shower curtain over shower door?
Comments (23)I like a shower curtain for its softness. In our previoius house, we purchased a clear glass door. It looked great and wasn't too hard to clean but we also sold the house just a few months after installing it--who knows what it looks like now after a few years. But also, a year or so ago I read an article by a guy who had his shower door shatter while he was naked and helpless. Tempered glass won't break from a direct impact on its broad side but what happens is if the track becomes worn/loose it can cause an edge impact, and then it will shatter easily. I know it is rare, but it scared the crap out of me! He stood in his shower surrounded by glass with no way out!! Yikes. I don't think a curtain necessarily makes a room feel smaller--here's our ceiling to floor shower curtain...helps make our small master bathroom feel grand :) Here is a link that might be useful: Ceiling to Floor Shower Curtain...See MoreNeed help picking out a garage and front door color and style
Comments (11)I would match the garage door to the roof. No black. No windows, they just increase the grinning face illusion. The black front door is a good idea, but I would use a colonial style. Other colour ideas could include deep plum and burgundy. Your home is traditional, embrace it!...See MoreDo you prefer to park inside or outside of your garage in the suburbs?
Comments (51)"Tell me about Canada's environmental record insofar as the massive environmental damage caused by oil sand operations." Sure - if you want to start a new thread about it, I'd be happy to discuss it. Unlike the US, we don't shy away from the damage and mistakes that we make, nor about the political controversy about it. We could also discuss our proportional reliance on renewable and nuclear energy if you like. "In the US, such decisions are and have always been local, at the city and town level. There is no "national" policy nor would our laws allow one." That's too narrow an interpretation about what I said, and I never mentioned laws or policies. Again, you're putting your bias into what I said, rather than actually reading what I said. (But, if you do you want to talk zoning laws and policies, that would be an economic and racial injustice discussion, not an environmental discussion.) Actually, what I meant was really the absence of laws or policies, and the abundance of lobbying and marketing. The auto and energy companies wanted those broad, laid out roads and suburbs; they just convinced the governments that was what they needed....See MoreBryan
