new kordes roses: Summer Romance and First Crush
Comments (79)@Liz Bell summer romance prefers full sun here in the south and they do not burn in all day sun. As long as they get 6 or more hours of sun it does well Mine got afternoon dappled shade after 1 pm from a nearby tree until the sun shifted enough in late afternoon to provide more direct sun. So if your areas can provide at least 6 hours it should be great. Kordes here seem to prefer all day sun compared to Austin’s. Our zones are probably not very different since I am in alabama...See MoreWondering about Summer Romance
Comments (122)Summer Romance spotted at Home Depot in the Seattle area for $12.98 in 1.5 gallon pots, nice sized, probably own root. I planted Summer Romance last fall as a young plant from Roses Unlimited. This spring the plant has grown nicely and is starting to bloom in my Pacific Northwest garden. The scent is incredible. The blooms are beautiful. The bush is really healthy and beautiful. Love this rose....See MorePink roses... summer romances, pink peace, Tiffany
Comments (8)Tiffany is a lovely rose, a true mid-century gem. It was the first rose I ever grew as a child and I still grow it all these years later. Not so much for sentimental reasons but because it is still a great rose. It is reasonably disease resistant, fairly hardy and surprisingly resilient. My childhood specimen was a clearanced bodybag planted in late June (!) into unamended, rock hard, heavy clay in an unsheltered, brutal western exposure. The fact that it lived, let alone thrived, still amazes me when I remember it. A few things about Tiffany: 1. It has one of the best fragrances in all of rosedom — intense, sweet, pure and slightly fruity. 2. In my opinion, it does not seem to photograph well. The blooms are far larger and more substantial in person and the glowing yellow petal bases never seem to come through well in pictures. 3. With a bit of initial coddling, this rose will grow surprisingly well on its own roots. I obtained my current virus indexed version and moved it up gradually in pot sizes to build up the size. It has a massive root system and after each reporting definitely liked to fill the pot with roots before putting on much top growth. But it was never a weak or slow grower on its own roots by any means. Of your other choices, I have only seen Pink Peace. It also has beautiful blooms with a memorable fragrance. But my choice is still Tiffany....See MoreLa Rose de Molinard or Summer Romance
Comments (17)Summer romance is a beautiful rose with an incredible scent and perfect health here. It is not a rounded bush, it throws upright long canes. It is way taller than 4x4 in zone 7b. Amazing spring flush and sporadic blooms the rest after two years in the ground. It would be magnificent if it decided to rebloom well, but so far not. So far Fiji and Madame Anisette both have required over 3 years here before rebloom omg well. I will get give SR another year to see if rebloom improves before deciding if it deserves the space in the garden....See Moredianela7analabama
