Decorating a small back entry way? (Tiny mud room porch?)
Comments (2)The first think I'd do is remove the rubbermaid container and shoes. Is there room for a small bench with a shelf beneath (for shoes)? Something like this.... I like the basket on the wall and the small table. Take everything off the table except for one nice plant. You have wall space in there for a couple of decorative/seasonal signs. Replace your current rugs with something more colorful and your done!...See MoreNeed help decorating tiny NYC apartment
Comments (11)A small chandelier would add a lot! Even in a rental you can replace a ceiling light, provided that it's installed correctly with a junction box, which is probable (except in my house, where about half the lights are installed without junction boxes - no code enforcement when it was built). Just save the original fixture to reinstall when you move. One that might be particularly nice is the Ramsele pendant lamp from Ikea, which is ingeniously self-dimming (pulling a cord makes it more open or more closed). Also ideal for renting: peel-and-stick removable wallpaper, perhaps for the headboard wall. Something subtle like a faux grasscloth is what I would aim for, not a pronounced pattern....See Moresmall living room, no entry way. furniture design help needed
Comments (5)@Maddy Jens congrats on the house it looks beautiful! I grew up in a 1929 bungalow with no formal entry. Your new space looks like there may be room for an entry to the right as you walk in. A bench (with storage) below the window and a thin profile console table with mirror on the wall to the right of the opening to the dining room? The fireplace seems to be the focal point of the room. Keep a couch with or without chaise add-on on the wall and perhaps round coffee table with two chairs facing the couch? If you need desk space that could go where the rocker is now, against the wall perpendicular to the fireplace wall. Beautiful house! Enjoy making it your own :)...See MoreHELP Split entry way decor??
Comments (10)Sometimes it's good to see what others have done. What's with the Spanish candelier? It's a split level and it's naturally contemporary in style. Adding texture to the wall with batten strips could be interesting. Adding a wainscoting could cut the height of the walls visually A shelf and mirror or hooks and bench like you see below is an option also. I don't think the walls should remain simply white....See MoreKathleen Marineau
