what new to you mail order companies did you try this year?
Comments (17)I ordered from Digging Dog for the first time this year. They had a Valentines Sale on the internet, but I screwed up my order, so I had to e-mail, then phone, then phone two more times. When I finally got hold of someone they were very nice and took care of the order so I got the special. Then, they experienced big delays in getting plants from their supplier. This meant my plants were two or more months late getting to me. They gave me opportunities to cancel, but I did not...never thinking that brand new plants going into my soil just as my summer heat comes in is not a good idea. Bottom line, some of the plants died. I don't think it was entirely their fault. I should have cancelled the order. The plants that survived did wonderfully well, and I am wowed with the Rigoletto miscanthus I got from them. It has the purest white variegation I have ever seen on a grass and only gets 4'x4'. I have never seen Nichols Garden Seed and Nursery (Oregon) mentioned on this forum. They have a really great selection of flower, herb, perennial, and vegetable seed, their prices are reasonable and their packets have a generous amount of seed in them. I tried them after reading "The Bountiful Container" a couple years ago. Their seed packets had so much seed in them, that I have pretty well given them my allegiance ever since. I would also give high ratings to Forest Farm, Greer Gardens (the biggest plants I have ever received from any company), Plant Delights, Old House Gardens, Brent and Beckys Bulbs (a few perennials too), High Country, and Lazy S's. All these companies have excellent products and customer service. When I need large amounts of seeds of a kind, I order from Hazzards Greenhouse. They are a wholesale company, but do not have a minimum order requirement. Their seed is of an excellent quality and you can save ALOT of money if you need at least 250 seed of a kind. (With careful storage, I have been able to use one pack of marigolds three years in a row now.) I have also ordered plants from E-bay over the years. Once and only once was I ever dissatisfied. The plants were chrysanthemums, but the wrong variety. By the time I knew that it was too late to complain......See MoreBeware of the 'Mail Order Hosta' Company
Comments (2)El Niño - $14.95. Blue leaves have a bright white margin. El Niño is a sport of Halcyon, a proven performer that holds its blue color better than most hostas. We expect it to grow to about 2'. Lavender flowers in summer. Limited numbers because of Hosta Virus X infection in the wholesale supply. See Sleeping Beauty. BUT I want to brag on , Little Honey Oakleaf Hydrangea Bush - Bright Gold Foliage - 4" Pot MSRP: $17.99 $9.99 (You save $8.00 ) The plant came in in good form, multiple limbs, new growth & what plant they sold me. $9.00 a lot of money, but I found the same plant in 4 in pot for &28.00 & that was the cheaper price. One gallon for for $54.00. Anyway this was the first order, but not the last & I have this plant now, two cheaper than one at other place. It was on sale. https://hirts.com/little-honey-oakleaf-hydrangea-bush-bright-gold-foliage-4-pot/...See MoreAny good Mail Order Perscription Pharmacies?
Comments (12)sooey - frankly, I would be afraid to take the meds from Global at that price. Actually, I won't even buy skin creams at duty free or on-line from a discount site. I am an allergy waiting to happen - but still, the meds just seem to cheap. I would follow the advice given by others and speak with your pharmacist. Re generics - I have - at age 63 - only one prescription - and I can't take the generic form due to the non-medicinal ingredients - I know, I tried it. My husband's office plan is about to change to - mandatory generics - 90% coverage (he pays for a Family Plan) - and a note from the doctor will not allow me to continue with the name brand so I will pay the difference myself. Dispensary fees are being capped as well - kind of pointless to spend $5.00 or more on gas to save $4.00 on a dispensary fee so will pay that as well. My husband has 2 eye drop prescriptions - they are not cheap - but they do not come in generic form - and of course he can use generics. He will turn 65 in December but will continue working until I turn 65. He will have some medical benefits post retirement (younger people will not) - but our provincial health care will generally cover only generics - many seniors pay the difference themselves (our provincial plans do not pay for meds for those under 65 - you have to apply to the Trillium Foundation for financial relief if needed - maybe you have something like that in the U.S.) Then there comes the horror of when a name brand is pulled and only generic brands of said drugs are available. I did look into the various plans offered by Blue Cross etc. in Canada - again generics only - with a cap of $200 a year - that wouldn't get you far. I hope you can find some financial relief that does not involve Global on-line. They might be fine, but sound too good to be true - and you know how that generally plays out....See Morel pinkmountain
